in my experience its been the bigger the company the more complicated the drug test. small place I'm at now, no test. hollywood video and compusa drug tested me. this girl I know had to take a hair test when she applied for her gaming license to work at a casino.

not at an agency, none I have heard of. I had one at my last job because it was inhouse at a medtech corp. I think its fair to say if your thinking of working with new people by choice or other you should probably take a break from drugs long enough to get in and get settled...then you can resume snorting blow off of strippers asses.

I hardly ever smoke anymore but last summer in-between jobs I took a few little puffs while golfing with a bunch of friends.
The next day I got called back for an interview and the HR lady told me I must submit a drug test as the last step to get hired.
I freaked out and went to GNC to buy a cleansing test (that was kind of embarrassing) and drank it and a ton of water for 24hrs straight.
I went into the final interview and the lady said "lucky you, we stopped mandatory drug tests for pre employment on the first of this month. Sign here and show up Monday."

I've noticed office jobs do background checks, but no drug test. Retail jobs most likely do both.

It's less common at agencies but it you work in house for a larger company that has retail stores or restaurants and they want to drug test the retail employees they have to test everyone all the way up to the CEO. That gets expensive so a lot of retail companies stopped doing it all together

Yeh I never was asked to take one.
I would have refused, it's a peverse and invasive thing to ask for a piece of someone's body or some of their piss. They never wanted to search my place for stolen goods, or ask me to submit my dna to check that I wasn't an uncaught rapist, or fingerprint me to check that I hadn't committed burglaries in the area, or fiddled my taxes, or driven too fast, or assaulted anyone or any number of real crimes that you wouldn't want employees to have done if you wanted the other employees to be reasonably assured of their well-being sat at the job you'd paid them to do.
Drug test without an employment contract ? Fuck you.
Drug test in a right-to-work state ? - fucking shove it up one and back out the other one, you cheeky cunts.

Direct hire to an agency you will very rarely find a drug test filter.
Through a recruiter, about 50% of the time you will be asked to pee.
Freelance, fuck em, sit at home getting blitzed all day if that's your thing.
