Yeh I never was asked to take one.
I would have refused, it's a peverse and invasive thing to ask for a piece of someone's body or some of their piss. They never wanted to search my place for stolen goods, or ask me to submit my dna to check that I wasn't an uncaught rapist, or fingerprint me to check that I hadn't committed burglaries in the area, or fiddled my taxes, or driven too fast, or assaulted anyone or any number of real crimes that you wouldn't want employees to have done if you wanted the other employees to be reasonably assured of their well-being sat at the job you'd paid them to do.
Drug test without an employment contract ? Fuck you.
Drug test in a right-to-work state ? - fucking shove it up one and back out the other one, you cheeky cunts.
