My friend used a Dell for the longest time.. and as with any computers and him not being tech savvy he had issues.. So in the whole hype that Macs are amazing he decides to go and buy a Mac Book Air...

First thing he did was pay $500 at Apple store to get his shit transfered and running at peak speed because he was told it's the best way to keep his Mac properly organized and installed and would give him a piece of "mind". He says it's worth it so he doesn't deal with it.. I say ok.. it's your choice and your money.

So, he pays that, and during the installation and transferring process he calls me 4 times and puts me on the phone with the Apple genius who I'm starting to explain what to do and how to set shit up.. He knew some basic stuff and about emails but it started getting really annoying because these guys are glorified sales reps and this illusion and marketing where they call them "geniuses" is something that is ridiculous. So not only my friend paid $500 for them to set this shit up, now I'm talking to them and telling them what to do..

Then, he got everything set up finally and goes home and for 2 days (as long as it took him to install the other software and garbage he usually puts on Dell computer and Windows) he had a blast and kept telling me how everything was awesome and shiny (typical new Apple-user reaction see bouncing dock and swooshing windows going into the dock)..

Then, comes Monday, and we start getting on the conference calls, him using Skype and this software he needs to use in every day life. Machine starts crashing and he needs to reboot it at least 3 times while we were talking.. Naturally, the only response he gets from Apple support is to bring the laptop in for "testing" at Apple store..

He gets annoyed because not only he has to be out of his new laptop until they try to reinstall shit for him to "solve" the crashing issue, he is paying for this shit.

HIs response, that ultimately explains the Mac in comparison to Windows PCs "This shit crashes too man, LOL what a bullshit".. But unlike with PC where Dells guys actually came to him, and cost him 3 times less than a Mac, plus $250 for Apple Care, cough, tax.. and another $500 to keep his machine in "top shape".

Macs suffer from the exact same issue Windows PCs do.. whoever says otherwise is full of shit..

Actually, for the time I've been using Windows 7.. the machine never stalled, crashed or anything.. I didn't have to reboot it for cool month or more and it's sitting right next to my Mac..

I use Mac every day and this shit has to be rebooted 5 times a day because of some wicked weird behavior with Finder and all kinds of other shit like network drive mapping and recognition and so on.

The ONLY thing, that Apple does great is design.. and this is something I hope every other PC manufacturer starts copying more.. Windows 7 is already a slick, modern, fast, stable OS that can go head to head with OSX in terms of appearance.. but outweighs it by far with compatibility, openness in hardware, sheer raw performance and support for next gen technology.

It's really as simple as that. What was 10 years ago is irrelevant.

But you stil have 5 games on a Mac and most Mac users end up rebooting into Windows on their macs, which is a very good showing of how inapt OSX is for a regular user.

    • you wrote all that... for this thread?scarabin

Did they account for the fact that when you want to game or do some 3D the solution on a mac is to boot into Windows LOL.

    • welcome to 2005...inteliboy
    • yeah... um.. no.. it's still the same shit.. you wanna play new games and do like industry standard 3d like Max and shit you gotta boot into Windows..Boz
    • you gotta boot into Windows.. What a great experience.. not.Boz
    • hmm all the games i want to play are available on the mac, and I don't do 3D. Your argument is invalid.fugged
    • Windows is basically a wrapper app for software no one uses, except 3d heads 'n narcissistsprophetone
    • yeah.. good luck playing Counter Strike in OSX LOL.. It's a joke.. but I guess you can't expect anything else from fanboys.. If it doesn't work right or OSX can't do it then it's totally stupid and you don't really need it.. the pinnacle of Apple idiocy.Boz

Here at the office they have like 6 pcs and 3 imacs, in the years i've worked for this company, i've seen technicians come and go fixing the pcs when the macs the only thing we've replaced is the ram.

Out of the box, or store apple is much more pleasant then PC. The crapware/bloatware installed is horrible. AS far as a dialed clean install i find PCs to be much better machines. In UI and performance. However knowing how to customize one's OS plays a large part. I find PC has far more options and apps to get better workflow then i can find on a mac. Perhaps i don;t know enough about mac to get the performance i'd like or it may just be inferior too my standards. but working on both systems for awhile now i still find PC to be better. Its dynamic image preview system is beautiful and quick. it may not preview .psds but for those i have bridge and irfan. and the info look in the bottom bar is solid. I personally liek the color structure for quick identification. Mac seems to blend colors and look into a single unit, which is pretty but not effective for me. Its doesnt tie up resources to "appear" fast and i like that. Hardware upgrades when i want, and latest tech, a solid plus. Being able to make my bkg black without creating an image. Aero is pretty rockin on 7, not into it on vista, used visual task tips. But beautiful now and runs with less resources. Still havent adapted the pinning system, using a quick launch mod. I may in the future but maybe im too much of a puss to give it a shot, but i dont like the size of icons and have my old school shorts working fine. Bang for buck is MAJOR.

I figure it comes down to your workstyle and price. Do u want to work for your computer, or your computer work for you. Time and effort put into knowing the system. Customization options. Modded OS's that are brilliant for reinstalls with ssWPI and custom installations, How nice is it to install your apps and presets and tweaks all together. If you spend a lot more, and lock yourself into a set a little box so thigns work and u dont need to have any knowledge of it. that doesnt make u cool. it makes u lazy. and u paid a premium for your lazyiness. which isnt something to be proud of, if you can afford it and your ok with it, then hats off to you. but dont be bringing your pretentious crap about how much better in all realms your mac is because you paid X amount more for when its all BS. Thats what erks me the most about apple. And yes i have both.... but i gave up on snow leopard and went with 7 bootcamp....fucking work drank the koolaid and got a duo core 2010 model for me instead of a lenovo quad for 1300 less with better ram and usb3.0 e stata and shit... oh and 1 gig card... fuckers

    • however i do think i look "cooler" with a expensive apple in public and off site.deathboy
    • oh and it pisses me off off liberal douchetards talk about overseas work shit and corp profits and love appledeathboy
    • <great points.
you cant deny the better value of pc systems.

Windows 7 is far superior OS than OSX.. only someone either completely out of sync or someone who never used WIndows 7 would claim otherwise.. the UI is more productive, the performance is not even measurable to OSX in that it is superior, Windows supports larger variety of hardware, supports the latest graphics stuff like OpenGL 4.x and DirectX plus it supports shit like TRIM and all kinds of RAID and latest hardware and technologies including Blu-ray and so on.

You get to play the latest games, run all kinds of 3d software and applications that take advantage of this raw power.. the OS is fully 64bit and Adobe and many other apps are actually much more optimized for Windows because of it's heavier support for GPUs and thus perform much much better than anything on Macs.

I like OSX.. I work in it every day but if it wasn't of iOS platform and Apple's only tools that force you to work on Macs I wouldn't be using for one second, it's just way too ancient..

The 2 best features of OSX that I will say are better than Windows are Spaces and Time Machine an dhow it works.. other than that.. meh..

    • hahahahaahahaha I"m not even going to read anything after the second lineMiguex
    • You should.. maybe you learn a thing or two instead of hating out of ignorance.Boz
    • many people havent used windows sine 2000 and compare then vs now. i find thats a large case in opiniondeathboy
