performance aside, i think the real issue is aesthetics.
- that old chestnut! its a friggin computer not a woman!fadein11

YYYAAAAAAAWWWWWWNNNNNNN...
Mac PC fighting is so outdated.I was on Mac for 8 years and switched to PC 2 months ago. It changed NOTHING to my experience with a computer. Adobe CS5 still the same on both, Chrome is same... iTunes is the same... Windows 7 looks nice, OSX looks nice. Windows 7 never crash, OSX never crash...
Seriously, it's what you create that count, the rest are just tools.

benfal you are absolutely right. Performance is not really an issue. Anyone who claims their Mac or PC is crashing and that that is really a genuine problem in the year 2011 needs to buy a new machine.
The only meaningful difference is in terms of price and aesthetics. You get more bang for your buck with PC, whereas Mac is more expensive but offers a better user experience and more attention to detail.
There's a reason PCs are more popular and more design and film people prefer Macs, it's not all down to marketing.

- 'better value experience' is a somewhat qualitative and subjective ...nngh. damnit, bit.detritus
- the battle continues...abettertomorrow
- better user experience is also very subjective.. I am much faster on PC than I am on a Mac.. and user experience feels much better especially with the new almighty task bar and how it treats applications and windows and so on.. it's brilliant.Boz

the i bought cost me under 2000$ for a Intel Core i7 2.8GHZ with 18Gb of RAM... yes, 18Gb! Two hard drives set in RAID and two more normal hard drives for a total of 4Tb. An ATI Radeon HD5700 1024Mb of RAM. And a Blue-Ray reader writer thingy. That would have cost me like 6000$ for the same thing with Apple.

LOL kona! so true.
no support for adobe in ubuntu, but you can use W.I.N.E. - a compatibility layer for ubuntu, which generally works well, with huge amounts of support.
note, 'wine' stands for 'wine is not an emulator'. smart arse linux users eh!

Doesn't UI/ usability factor into this at all?
And this is why OSX is by far the best. No one cares if your machine can process a jpeg 0.0000001 percent of a second faster.
- wordmonospaced
- good point, but clearly others will disagree with that mac osx has the best UI.Hombre_Lobo
- I DISAGREE THAT MAC OSX HAS THE BEST UI.Hombre_Lobo
- lolabettertomorrow
- yep... Windows 7 has the most usable UI among modern OSs.. Though I'd have to say Spaces are seriously awesome on OSXBoz

@prophetone: Here's:
3x DDR3 4096 Mb Samsung PC3-10700 (667 MHz)

3x DDR3 2048 Mb Hyundai Electronics PC3-10700 (667 MHz)3x4096Mb + 3x 2048Mb = 18432Mb

For some stuff I've started using Linux. The developers in my company are Ubuntu chaps and our Rails App doesn't run completely on my Windows Machine. For standard coding I'm warming to Linux. Grep is fucking amazing and everything to do with Git/Rails/Code stuff is just much better.
The only thing keeping me with Windows is that Photoshop and Illustrator aren't natively available on Ubuntu.
- tell me about it dude. i need AE. getting PS and AI to work on ubuntu is easy in wine though. give it a shot.Hombre_Lobo

I'm clueless about Ubuntu. Does Ubuntu support Adobe apps?
- The short answer is: no. So is, as it happens, the long answer.Continuity
