Applying for Large Agency or Fortune 500 jobs?

Does anyone have any tips for applying to a large Agency or fortune 500 type job? I found a perfect job, but just filling out the form online and waiting doesn't seem like it will work. What would you do when you don't have a name of who might get the application?

try to find out the name of the recruiter via Linkedin.

Well, it would be better if you knew someone who works there. The higher up the better. Don't know if you do.
I just contacted a former co-worker who's a CD at a big agency today. I'm a little sick of my place lately.

avoid HR at all costs.... find somebody inside, relate very,very well to them..

Is it Digitas? Good luck getting around...lots of big companies will still make you fill out the online form. No fun.

It kind of sucks. From my experience, HR always has to get involved.
I interview designers and other candidates all the time. Even when they are referrals from other employees inside the company, HR still manages the interview process.- Just make sure you negotiate salary/rate with a CD or some kind of creative, NOT HR.CyBrainX

I interviewed at a Fortune 500 a few months ago and got the job offer from the department head. Two days later HR said nay-no thanks to an item on my record from 9 years ago. So I agree with Mr. White—be prepared for HR to screw things up.

HR are only good for benefits/holiday issues. They're not as qualified to hire you, know your role and what you should be paid as a creative director.

if you spend more time with HR than with the creatives you'll work with, you may be the "sacrificial comparison candidate" .... they may already have somebody else in mind....

I'm in my 3rd fortune 500 job. in 2 of them HR tried to block me in. The first time was over salary arrangements, but the art directors fought in my behalf, I still didn't get what I wanted, but still got more than what HR thought the position paid.
The second time, one HR person scheduled an appointment and another HR person call me to cancel the appointment. Apparently she saw something she didn't like in my resume. A month later a third HR person call me, and hired me... go figure...

I'd fill out the HR form, cause they'll need that info eventually. Then send a creative resume/reel package to the art directors. Something that they can't throw away. The Creative Director will most likely be too busy to watch it. I always loved seeing creative from students, they ended up putting in more effort than the pros.
If you don't know the name of the current art director(s), just put "attention art director" on it. Sure it'll find it's way from the receptionist to the creative department.

Seriously.... the best gigs I had were at small agencies run by refugees from big agencies... I got rather burned out at big agency gigs....
You might try an "informational" interview with creatives at the big agency, see if the account staff has their foot on the creative's throats, see if "maintaining good client relationships" is more important than "doing creative work".. if so, RUN....
