Thanks for all the info about Boulder, CO yesterday. My wife has SLC as an option too for relocation, so I just wanted to get some opinions. Thanks!

Dislike: Mormons (this comes with a ton of inconveniences)
Like: Ummm...

The only like I've heard so far is that the mountains are only about a half hour away.

not sure how the city itself is though.
- it's really nice, really clean, very suburban and in the summer it's all about skiingmonospaced
- but, those damn Mormons make it so hard to have a good timemonospaced
- not in slc so muchspifflink

Inexpensive living, median house price is about $240k. Very stable economy, one of the best in the US. 30-45 minutes to 10 ski resorts, with the BEST powder on earth, hands down. Killer mountain biking near and far. 15 minutes to an international airport. The city is up and coming on the culture/art side, for a city of its size, but it's a great place to call home especially if you like access to the mountains and southern Utah. Mormons have never been a problem, good people for the most part...and no, I'm not mormon.

yeah, mountains are super close - that's awesome. Ogden is a good town on the skirts of SLC too.
- Really? I've never felt the desire to stay in Ogden longer than no minutes.glitchsbrew

Isn't it like a 99% white population? And 99% Mormons? With a 1% margin of error.
I see this as a pretty big negative, even if you're not a minority.

Skiing is supposed to be incredible. There are *so many* awesome natural wonders in Utah - it's rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking heaven there. I've never lived there, just been out to UT a lot when I lived in Colorado. But if you like outdoorsy stuff - sounds great to me.

one of the most beautiful cities in America. Boulder isnt bad either though.

My impression was it was very boring...the city life anyway. You are at a high elevation and surrounded by mountains which is cool if you are into winter sports.
We tried to hit up some bars one night and there were a couple decent ones but the overall feel was more like a small town than a big city. Also visited Temple Square which is the Mormon world headquarters, lol...that is some crazy shit.

dbloc, when I was 27 I lived there for 2.5 years after coming from Toronto. I liked where I worked a lot but it's a depressing social scene if your not married. Rent was dirt cheap and the mountains are amazing and the weather was great (compared to Toronto). Your a one hour flight to LA. If your married and have a good job lined up it can be pretty nice. Made some great friends and did some great work there and payed of my student loans.
Don't worry about the religious/mormon thing. The coolest people I met where mormons. The struggle is that most non-mormons leave for LA or San Fran so the city is a little boring but great for outdoors stuff if your into that crap.

+1 for Este! Plenty of beers above 3.2, just can't get it at the grocery store, gotta hit up the liquor store, not a huge deal...
