Anyone moved out and worked in Canada. How are you finding it? Was it easy to get a VISA?
Any pointers much appreciated.

If you are doing it on your own (ie not marrying or living in "Common Law" with a Canadian) it can take a long time. But it's relatively easy process. Paperwork, visit to a Canadian approved doctors etc. I heard it can take up to 3/4 years!

Pretty sure you they still offer the 1 year work visa to anyone under 31.

Just bring a case of Molson with you and you're good to go.

I moved to Canada from England when I was young, my parents secured a job here while over in England. Having a job already lined up is key; even if you do have relatives here etc.

A friend of mine just got permanent residency after moving over from the UK and finding a job on a temp visa. I think it took about 6 months for the paperwork to go through. I'm not sure how easy it is to switch jobs / freelance without the permanent residency stuff.

I'm British and in Canada...
Perfectly happy, but I lined up a job before I came out.
Permanent Residency is a must.

Cheers for the pointers. I'm 28 and so is the wife - she's a nurse and I'm a web designer. We're both into our skiing/snowboarding so some winter living would be up our street. Where should we go? Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal?
- outdoor sports, go to vancouver or somewhere in BC.ross
- so much good snow and huge mountains...ross

- Alberta has good access to the mountains, less tax, more jobs, but the creative field is better in BC.ETM
- Yeah, I would suggest Montreal too then. Some nice places outside the city to drive to for sports.Jaline

"We're both into our skiing/snowboarding so some winter living would be up our street. Where should we go? Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal? "
From a job stand point you will find most work in the Toronto area. Montreal might be harder if you're not bilingual. Vancouver is probably behind Toronto for digital work.
Skiing snowboarding is hard to come by in Ontario. We have some ski hills, but they're nothing special. Head to BC for that; though, Quebec has some good skiing too.
Calgary is also an option with close access to the mountains. Web work will probably be a bit harder to come by than the above mentioned. But they're getting there from what I've seen.
Your wife will probably be able to find work easy being a nurse, she probably has to do some conversion exam, or course work to be qualified. But her nursing background will probably help you get into the country easier than just your qualifications.
- Thanks Canuck!Spilt-Milk
