This Is the Most Amazing Biomimetic Anthropomorphic Robot Hand We've Ever Seen
http://spectrum.ieee.org/automat…
There are two generalized schools of thought when it comes to robot hand design.
You have robot hands that are simple and straightforward and get the job done, like two- or three-finger grippers that can reliably do many (if not most) things well without any fuss.
And then you have very complex hands with four fingers and a thumb that are designed to closely mimic human hands, on the theory that human hands were intelligently designed by millions of years of evolution, and we’ve designed all of our stuff around them anyway, so if you want your robot to be able to do as many things as possible as well as possible you want a hand that’s as humanlike as possible.

This is gonna sound like I don't like this stuff... but...
Why the obsession with AI and Robots? What do humans hope to accomplish that we are not able to now?
it sounds like such a short sided question, Im all for advancement in technology... but I don't see why AI is such a big thing for humans.
Im guessing its more of a "HER" (movie) scenario??? we need some sort of selfless, emotional slave?
- 1. It's our species attempting to reproduce, making smarter/better "children". Or 2. We're alone in the universe, so we need to build friends.i_monk
- #1 Money and Power, just like almost every advancement. It will give those at the top more money, more power and make the lower class less important.formed
- i always felt like one of the remarkable natures of man is that if we see a thing is technically possible we go for itscarabin

- I can see that... I don't know I guess it strikes me as something deeper than just building something cool because we can. I lean more towards:sofakingback
- We do it to create a child in a god like manner. Even though, it will most certainly change us and its not certain for the best.sofakingback
- Not that it matters. Im of the belief that humanity is a self-destructing species that will go out in blazing glory someday.sofakingback
- Any how, its cool to see this amazing stuff and how it will eventually come to life. Hope I get to see it in my time.sofakingback

- Elysium. I actually really like the film - the rote sci-fi concept appeals to me, but the production design is out of sight - details for days.face_melter
