Before posting this I went and read the actual patent claim,
http://www.patentvest.com/consol…it is far beyond creepy, is apple going the crash and burn way? seems like it.
TL;DR here's an article that sums it up.
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/20…Remember the days when Apple users used to complain MS was the big Satan,
but MS never even came close to this kind of control, ask anyone with a pirated version of windows and they will tell you how "open" Microsoft is.Some of the patent claims
* The system can take a picture of the user's face, "without a flash, any noise, or any indication that a picture is being taken to prevent the current user from knowing he is being photographed";
* The system can record the user's voice, whether or not a phone call is even being made;
* The system can determine the user's unique individual heartbeat "signature";
* To determine if the device has been hacked, the device can watch for "a sudden increase in memory usage of the electronic device";
* The user's "Internet activity can be monitored or any communication packets that are served to the electronic device can be recorded"; and
* The device can take a photograph of the surrounding location to determine where it is being used.

These sound like patents for security measures to enable an iPhone owner to retrieve a stolen iPhone.

Apple patents lots of crazy crazy stuff. Doesnt mean they will actually put those features in a product.
- georgesIII0
Yeah it is always for security.
Then once everyone gets used to it, it becomes the normal.* put carbon hat on
- what happened to the tinfoil?Amicus

And doesn't Mobileme exactly help you find and retrieve your stolen goods?
I don't care what Apple does with his things,I just want to point out that if It was Microsoft filling for a similar patent, every Fanboy would be crying about privacy...
- plash0
I could care less about the fanboys out there.
for them all hope is lost. they will wait in line for 3 days, put it on their credit cards and then try to convince me that its good for everyone to have it.all i hope is that apple doesn't set precedence. it would be a bloody shame if all technology has the ability to remove my privacy.

I actually saw a guy in real life with an ipad on the bus the other day, should have been called the jumbo itouch seriously what a complete joke those things are

let's face it, if some security company came out with something which allowed you to monitor your hardware with all these features in case of theft or loss, most people would be happy to finally have a way to track or trace their stolen goods. Apple is going in that direction, just so happens they also patented it.

Almost all mobile phones currently have the ability to be 'dialled into' and have audio sent back regardless of wether a call is connected or not. Even if the phone is off, as long as the battery is still in, audio information can be obtained. The government has had that ability for a long time now. It is scary stuff indeed.
- although of course this is not generally public knowledge so I await the misinformed 'you're crazy' comments.... =)set
- it is public knowledge and the gov can use it with a wire tapmonospaced

So if I told you Apple collected and stored a permanent record of every search you ever made, the text of every email you sent, and potentially had access to your work documents, every file on your computer, your financial information, and even drove around the country illegally recording data gathered from unsecured wifi networks, I wonder how much of a shit fit some of you guys would throw?
Oh wait, that was...
- maikel0
The only problem I see on this is that any half respected hacker around will be able to 'bug' your computer, either for money or for fun.
I believe that you can access most of the features of a laptop remotely so -in theory- somebody could be staring at your (or jerking off with you) at this very moment.
Apps like little snitch are quite handy, as you can stop all the outbound info in you laptop. my first reaction when I installed the damn thing was 'geeee, see the amount of crap that ALL my software is given away'
However, none of our lives is THAT freaking important to others, ain't it?
Said that, 10 years ago I had loads of fun sending trojans which ran BackOrifice to friends and colleagues.

a big company work in this way. All the people are giving ideas, any kind, about what would be possible...Not only for themselves but for other companies can't develop...medicine, military...first world problems...
- ukit0
I mean are you guys really worried about privacy? Watch this video and ask yourself, would he make this comment if Google WASN'T sharing all of our search data and email with the government?
OK sorry, return to bashing Apple because they don't support Flash on the iPad...which we all know is the major issue of our time :D
- We hate Apple because it runs on Magic!georgesIII
