Anyone using Dropbox for their iTunes library storage? I'm thinking about upgrading to the 50GB plan this evening, but I'm curious about one thing in particular. That is, say I open up a ZIP of an album and then I open those files to iTunes. Do the songs add/save to my library on my Dropbox folder, or do they add locally (meaning I have to update my iTunes playlist/folder on Dropbox all over again)?
Thanks.

There are better storage services that offer unlimited backups for a fixed price.

Depends on your iTunes settings.
Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> choose your iTunes folder location -> check the box that asks if you want to copy files to iTunes folder

just go buy an external drive. a raid gig drive will set you back about 100 bucks. then it's duped and localised.

man, i have it on an external firewire with approx. 75GB of music. reconfiguring the playlist and updating genius takes a long ass time. i can't imagine how long it's going to take once you point itunes to the remote location. days dude. days.
- get a faster drive. i use a network one with about 300gig of music and tv shows. slight delays at times mind.airey
- then something is fubar with my drive/computer. it takes hours.kona
- i have 56 4GB flash drives daisy chained together. do you think that's why?kona
- hahahaha. no. i can't see a problem with that. mine is quite similar.airey

What Ruffian said, but it won't sync your playlists or library file, just the audio files. Unless I'm doing something wrong, which is possible, my wife and I share a common iTunes folder where the audio data is stored but just because I buy a new song doesn't mean it'll show up unless she goes File > Open > and select the iTunes folder. It'll trawl through the whole directory and add anything new. A little clunky but it works OK.
- just share the library through one machine. that machine will appear on the right and be always up to date.airey
- you can also share a library on a network drive. just hold down option when starting up itunes.ephix
- I guess I should clarify that we don't want the same library. We uncheck different music and we have different podcasts.welded

I'm looking to use Dropbox as my iTunes server for a reason. Three computers, three locations (not including my MBP) and I am getting fed up with synching across all three/four. Not interested in the external HDD for that reason.
It is definitely possible to use a remote location for your playlist/music files: http://storecrowd.com/blog/dropbā¦
I'm going to delete my plist from my MBP and try it with a very small amount of files first to see what happens. I'll post up the results afterwards.
- why? you can put everything on the hard drive (including the library .xml file or whatever) and just use it on whichever yu wantpastpastdue
- basically, do you know about option+clicking to open itunes and define a new library file?pastpastdue
- Yes, but I think you're missing the point that I'm trying to find if there's an automated/cloud way to do this. Thanks though.********

You can use zumodrive. It's a dropbox clone that has iTunes integration.
