After a couple years of "thinking" about moving out there, we finally just decided to do it. So it's finally in the works. September 1, we will be moving out there! Super-excited and a little scared.
Now does anyone have an apartment they want to rent us? :)

have you ever stayed in SF for a long period of time?
- because you better before you move there.FredMcWoozy
- 3 weeks has been the longest.lvl_13
- he and she will now.akrok
- Ok thats good. It is really different then being a tourist.FredMcWoozy
- Why ask a silly question like that?brandon_phillip

just don't live in the 'loin
I highly recommend the Richmond and Sunset districts. You have easy access to GG Park and are removed from a lot of the nastiness of downtown SF. Getting to and from the center of the city might take a little while on the bus, but I think it's worth it especially for a real neighborhood, the beach and the views.
- oh, and you can rent an entire Victorian (house) for the price of a nice apt in other 'hoodsmonospaced
- actually this is one place we never explored. it seemed too far away from the hotspots i guess. i'm more of a city type personlvl_13
- it's not that far, reallymonospaced
- oh, and the park is considered a hotspot...but that's just me, I lived out there for 5 years and loved every secondmonospaced
- oh, i love the park. that is def. a hotspot. but what fiver said below is what i have heard from several others.lvl_13

richmond and sunset are cool if you're looking to get away from things every once in a while, but the weather is generally shit, i.e. foggy and windy. i lived in the sunset for two years and now the mission. each has benefits. public transit from richmond and sunset is hell..... have you looked around bernal or portrero?
- yeah, we explored them as well. it's so weird how seperated portrero seems because of the freewaylvl_13
- Hell? I dunno. There are several bus lines and the train. So much going on West of Divisadero that nobody knows aboutmonospaced
- that's true, mono.lvl_13
- Around Divisadero is nice. Also, Hayes Valley is really starting to grow on me.instrmntl
- yeah, i love hayes valley. not quite as busy as mission, but still right in the heart. or very close too anyway.lvl_13

If you prefer somewhere a bit quieter then you might like Potrero Hill, its a skip away from the Mission and has awesome views of the city.
- that it does. those streets looking down into the city are ridiculous. the bad thing is you can only cross into the city at a couple spots (16th and 24th?)lvl_13
- Potrero is great. Also, Bernal Heights.instrmntl
- spots. total guess here but i think it was 16th st and 24th st. otherwise you get stuck at the freeway.lvl_13
- but hell. i'm just nitpicking complaining now! it's all rad.lvl_13
- you'll figure it out after living here for a while. it's a nice neighborhood, but a bit separated.fiver
- Thats why people like it I guess:)Noggin

The Tenderloin is great. So many bars, nice and cheap restaurants. I think it's the place to be. Just don't live lower than O'Farrell. I'm on the edge, and I think it's by far the best area I've lived in, and I've lived by Golden Gate Park, Nob Hill, Russian Hill, Mission, and North Beach.

Stay out of the Marina. If you haven't found a gig, make up one or tell the landlord here that you freelance. Have some proof of income - some can be incredibly anal about that here since turnover is high around these parts.
Let me know when you get into town.

You should also look into going to SF Outside Lands in August and Folsom St Fair in Oct (I think).

Yeah the Loin is defiantly the place to be. Close to everything, farmers market on wed and sun, tons of dives, the best food in town, tons of galleries popping up every where, good and bad people, lots of great food stores... I've been living in the hood for a while now and other then the crazies and the fact the the apt are $$$, i got no complaints.

north of market = more city feel. old san francisco.
SOMA = new downtown.
potrero/bernal/mission = more neighborhood oriented
noe valley = stroller valley
hayes/haight/cole valley = vintage san francisco
sunset/richmond = nature and neighborhood with less going on, but great for nature and exercise.

The 'loin is disgusting. I mean, if you're into cheap food and you want it on your doorstep (with crackheads, transvestite mexican whores and drunk art students) then it's the place to be. Also, dangerous drug dealers roaming around give it extra flavor, not to mention the stinking, shameless and often mentally-challenged vagrant population that has set up shop there. Fuck the 'loin.
- yeah it does smell funny sometimes, but other than that .. .dasohr
- oh, I didn't even get started on what it smells likemonospaced

We used to play this game when going through the Tenderloin where we would count how many illegal activities we could see in plain view in a two-block radius. It was absolutely overwhelming.
- come-on. Pho Hoa, Bang San, Osha, Dotties, Whiskey Thieves, High Tides, Olympia, Edinborough,... they all speak for themselves.dasohr
- hahahahhhahaSeanbot
- Yeah, those places are there (and I know the Thieves owners pretty well), but it doesn't make up for how nasty it is.monospaced

Congrats and try craigslist and airbnb for places til you guys find what you're looking for.
- yeah totally. our thought is we get into a temp month sublet, and then spend our days apartment hunting for what we really want.lvl_13
- really want. i just know we will actually have to be IN the city to pull down an apartment that we want, rather than just over CL and emaillvl_13
- and email transactions.
and thanks by the way :)lvl_13
