My wife and I were living in Oakland last year and looking to move into the Mission/Guerrero area. We spent three-and-a-half months hitting 'refresh' on craigslist before we expanded our search to other neighborhoods. Within a day of doing so, we found a GREAT apartment about a block from Alamo Square. Been here for a couple of months and are really into the neighborhood. Divisadero's got some cool stuff going on (Nopa, Nopalito, some decent bars, the Independent, a Bi-Rite opening next year...), and I see 'for rent' signs fairly often. I don't have any inside scoop on places, per se, but I could certainly help by keeping my eye out for signs if you're interested in this neighborhood at all.

Hey thanks cuke! We have been scoping out areas and looking...and looking... And looking haha! As it's been said already, trying to get a 1-bedroom in the areas we want us tough! Oh well, I'm sure we will land something. We put in a couple applications this weekend, and will probably put some in this weekend.
I'll hit you up via email sometime in the next week or so. I am in a fulltime contract gig for a while but it would still be nice to meet up and grab a drink/lunch or something. I barely know anyone here!
- -1 for typing this response on my iPhone. So many grammatical errors...but whatever.lvl_13

good luck man, and welcome! i was across the street from alamo square park, loved the area. in the richmond now, super quiet but we LOVE LOVE it; half a block from gg park, so rad. fyi i got a scooter and my commute to downtown is 10-15 minutes, bus is like 30 minutes. best of luck finding an apartment! p.s. if you're still looking for work check in via email and we'll see if the timing is better now...

you'll obviously have an easier time if you can expand your search area, maybe up to the panhandle, cole valley, inner sunset/richmond. I personally think the mission is hot and nasty and would never live there, but i'm a grumpy old man and not a twenty-something anymore.
- Amen to that.Seanbot
- haha a grumpy old man just like mespraycanII

Yeah. Finding any decent place in the city is pretty crazy - have copies of your credit report and a checkbook ready; it's not uncommon to have people barter up prices of rent as an incentive to get the apartment - case in point, a friend of mine just moved into town and landed up paying $250 more than the asking price cause he really wanted the apartment over the other 30 people looking at it that day.

i'll look around. it's tough finding a one bedroom in the city. i had doctors bidding for the same places i was looking for. have your checkbook and references in hand when going to look for a place. good luck! you're looking for october 1?
- yeah, and thanks. the one bedroom thing seems really hard. sucks.lvl_13

longshot: anyone in the mission happen to know of any apartments in their area going up for rent soon? or have friends in the mission/hayes valley that have seen signs up for places? i know, i know...total longshot. but fuck it. you guys have managed to help out once in a while :)
- how many bedrooms?instrmntl
- 1 bedroom. the funny thing is that there are endless amounts of fucking studios or 3 bedrooms. not so much in betweenlvl_13

my girlfriend and I moved to SF from CHI last september. we got a short term lease in SOMA for too much, but we budgeted for the ease of moving. rented it sight unseen and it made the move way easier. after that ended we found a 2 br house with a yard in noe/bernal-ish.
do you have any work lined up? i could use some help out here... soon!

.. one more thing.. try not to it bother you when you run into a number of weirdos who think they're on a higher plane of existence than you just because they've lived there longer than you....
