yeh man the GF1 feels v v nice.
i picked up the E-pl1 and while its shape is much better than the shape of the E-p1/2 (for my hands), its too plasticy and the buttons in particular felt very cheap.Sadly the EVf for the GF1 isnt very good, its ok, but when put next to the EVF of the GH1 / G1 /G2 or the attachable EVF for the E-pl1 and Ep2 it looks quite bad.
Most people who buy it say they are pleased they did, they use it a lot, its decent, just not as good as the VERY good EVF for the E-pl1 and e-p2.
GF1 pics are looking nice.
man you take a lot of flickr pics! 118 pages! good stuff!

Maybe a dumb question, but is the Panasonic GF1 last year's model? Is there a 2010/2011 version? Would that be the GF2?
- Hombre_Lobo_20
not a dumb question at all dude!
the GF1 is indeed a model from last year (i think), and there is a new GF2, but the GF2, being more compact with less manual control (no wheels, less buttons etc) that the GF1 is aimed at a more point and shoot, less pro crowd.
As far as i know they will deliver very very similar image quality though.
- thank you...I have seen some very impressive shots with the GF1 and would love to acquire.stoplying

Wait until 2012 and get the GF3, or if you're not in any hurry, there's a GF4 coming in 2013 or even a GF5 in 2014.
Exciting times!
- I pre-ordered the GF5 and they sent me these as a complimentary gift: http://www.thefashio…Mr_Mxyzptlk
- I'll send you some socks immediately********
- I've about had it with your pro-knee sock agenda.Mr_Mxyzptlk
- But, but.... they go to 11.********
- They do no such thing. At best, they go to an 8.Mr_Mxyzptlk
- You probably have big feet.********

Lol orbit,
you'd be a fool to buy the GF5 though considering the GF6 has a stealth button to make completely invisible for discreet shooting. Not to mention the new 4000000x3000000 pixel display to make nailing focus on the single hair easier!
- sublocked0
Just got my GF-1 and took some shots with it tonight!
Who here is on Flickr? Link up...
- Nice sublocked. What lense? Shooting with a tripod I take it?ian
- 20mm pancake, and just a shitty gorillapod slr for the building shots. I need a decent tripod.sublocked
- All the sign photos were simply handheld.sublocked
- Cool, the sign photos turned out well, especially for handheld. Some nice shots... and a good story about that kid on the roof.ian

Can't afford, or at least not want to casually carry around, an M9---
but really do need to be able to shoot with shallow DOF (often need this for work). And DSLR's are pretty chunky to lug around all day.Thoughts on using a micro4/3's camera for shallow DOF? Maybe a ~f1.2 28mm lens or the like would be a 50mm f2.0 equiv??

^ The Fuji X100 looks amazing --- though built in lens! Going to turn all those "professionals" away. So so close fuji.
Have no idea why these companies make such odd decisions.

I bought a GF1 before going to Thailand.
Here are my results.

@intelliboy
you need shallow DOF?
I think m43 would be fine for your needs. You could simply buy any f1.2 four thirds lens then get the corresponding adapter and whack it on your m43 body. It would be manual focus though. There are no m43 native (with auto focus) lenses. The panny 20mm f1.7 is the widest.
However f1.2 on a aps-c sensor (1.6 crop) will be shallower than on a m43 sensor (2x crop). The difference isn't huge but it's note worthy.
I'd say look on flickr for some pics like 'gf1 f1.2' etc and see if you like it.
You can get a canon FD 1.4 50mm (100mm effective on m43) quite cheap and it's very sharp.
- hey cheers - thanks, wasn't sure if it'd actually be good enough. will do some researh - gf1 looks v nice.inteliboy

550d is ace. GF1 went back.
One more down!
- inteliboy0
550d is just a small slr right? feels crippled.
i like the idea that micro four thirds are like digital rangefinders --- even though now it seems the gadget companies are quickly gearing these towards consumers rather then photographers which is a shame (touch screens and gimicky features)
- Atkinson0
550d is small yes, but ive never used a dslr before so it's nice to carry around

Okay .. I think I'm going to buy a GF1+20mm lense .. is there anything I should consider before taking the plunge? Is there a better option at the moment?

Lukus, The GF2 I believe is coming out in a month or so, however you may still want to grab the GF1 as there are many changes that you may or may not like.
- Hmm.. yeah, I think the GF1 might be better for me, even though the GF2 is a nicer size.********

Do you think the GF2 release will bring the price of the GF1 down much more? Would it be worth waiting a few weeks?
- Hombre_Lobo0
Lukus!
Glad to see you're joining the m43 crowd, but be sure to note the downsides of the GF1. I love mine, and the 20mm, but the Olympus pens are also great choices.
Be sure to look over the previous pages, I've done an in depth comparison (twice maybe) between the smaller m43 offerings.
Rememer if you can't live without a view finder and do a lot of high iso the oly pen ep-2 and epl1 is probably a better choice than the gf1.
Also images of the new Olympus pen have emerged, you
could wait, but then you could always wait for the next thing with cameras.
- Hombre_Lobo0
And the gf2 is more point and shoot orientated with less manual control (no wheels which can be very annoying) and in my opinion it's getting too small for it to be ergonically enjoyable.
- Hombre_Lobo0
Also if you are considering an oly pen bear in mind the panasonic lenses are sharper than the Olympus ones and focus faster.
The oly pen Achilles heel is it's focus speed but when an oly body is paired with a Panasonics lens it's fine. the fastest combo is still pana body and Pana lens though, but Its only like .1 of a sec faster than a oly body and pana lens. The oly body and oly lens focus about .2 of a second slower than the PANa body and pana lens.
Remember it's Mainly the oly lenses that make it slower.
