Do you own a gun?

Yeah, I might have to get a gun and carry it just to protect myself from all these people that feel you should pull a gun to "protect yourself".
Keep in mind that simply pointing a gun at someone is assault with a deadly weapon. I can't wait to see how many people end up in jail thinking they were "threatened"...."I could have sworn that zippo was a knife!"
and yes, I do own a gun, just scares me to death all these people that think carrying one will make the world safer. Terrifying, to be honest. Own a gun, protect yoru home if you must (and hope you don't shoot yourself, your kids sneaking in late at night or your neighbor knocking on your door after his wife kicked him out), but please don't carry a loaded gun around with you.
- This is kind of how I feel about gun control. I don't personally see a reason for a gun to ever be outside the home.********
- You get mugged and that's that. You have a marginal chance of actually being shot/stabbed by a mugger.********
- I've been mugged three times in Richmond, VA and almost once in SF. Never once was I like...********
- "I wish I had a gun so I could blow that motherfucker's brains out." I think that's a sad way to be/think.********
- Not to mention you would, most likely, not have time to access your gunformed
- logic, i love it. I think Personal Carry is a good idea but not with our society.********

^^ Totally agree.
I think there is a stereotype about people who own guns and I'm glad formed wrote what he wrote. People who own guns should be very conscientious about why they want to own a gun and make sure that they're owners for the right reasons. There is a lot of responsibility that comes with owning a gun. I've had a guns since I was 19, and I learned how to shoot them and care for them right away. I try and go to the range here and there so that I feel comfortable handling it and the guns never leave the house. Sure there are the idiot gun owners, but I'd say that most of the people I've met who have them are responsible.

The only reason I'd own a gun is to shoot at a range just for the bang. I don't think I'd need to own it, but might be safer using my own gun. The whole protection idea is absurd.

There are some interesting figures published about conviction rates and licensed firearm carriers.
For example, in 2007 there were 61,260 offenses in Texas that included a handgun or the unlicensed carrying of one. To put into perspective, there are about 25 million people who live in Texas.
Of those, 160 offenses were caused by state-licensed carriers. That's 0.26% of the total. The rest were not licensed or legally allowed to carry.
Those of us who have been through the local, state and federal background checks, along with the proper firearm training, cause very little trouble, if any.
- And 29 of these offenses were when the individual forgot their license while carrying.xcreonx

^ I should add that there are around 320,000 concealed firearm license holder in Texas.
