Print designers are expected to know how to make images print-ready, and do all sorts of touch-ups and alterations, why shouldn't web designers be held to that standard (web-ready)? If the client can give me a 72dpi RGB headshot and expect me to make it pretty in a magazine ad, I should be able to give you a 300dpi CMYK headshot and expect you to make it work on the web.

I use InDesign to create immersive Flash websites!

monospaced,
Well there-in lies the problem. How can you possibly design to the 'right-size' with Indesign seeing as it doesn't accurately represent pixels on screen? It is a great mystery!!!!!!!
To call it wasting time? My friend... I think you could only benefit from learning the ins-and-outs of pixel-perfect design using photoshop. It might give you clearer insight to the very things we're discussing in this thread.
- fuckin' A, my version of InDesign works in pixels. And before that it works in points (72/inch), the same as pixels.monospaced

Reading this argument from
Monospace, d_rek and Sherm is just daft.

@d_rek
Pixels and points are pretty much identical. Anyways, if the people using my design "reference" are so fucking lazy that they can't code accurately to the design (which I build to points/pixels) then they will be fired. The fact of the matter is that if you knew anything about InDesign then you'd realize that it's just fine for this purpose.The pixel-perfect Photoshop shit I leave to the web guys in the basement because that's what they do best.

This argument is obviously going nowhere. Well, we can agree to disagree and call it a day.

Just wanna let you know, I'm not an inconsiderate designer. Even though I use InDesign for the majority of my work (even web) I go out of my way to make my files immaculate. Grid lines relate to pixels widths, I'm detail-oriented like a motherfuck so I'm all about the details. Of course I want the development stage to be smooth and I work with them. In the end they are able to optimize my placed images, work with my grid and create live type â using code n' shit â from the artwork.
And like everyone said before, if I'm expected to take shit content from Word documents, Excell spreadsheets, Powerpoint and emails and create layouts, I expect code monkeys to work with my art and do their job as it's defined.
I agree to disagree and call it a day. Good luck with your web "design."

So monospaced, what kind of "design" do you do? I mean work wise.

I hate web design, and if forced to design a site always use InDesign just to make the developer suffer as much as I have to

I'm sick of internet arguments, but the europeans love it and the americans call them swiss discussions. They stay.
