Print designers are expected to know how to make images print-ready, and do all sorts of touch-ups and alterations, why shouldn't web designers be held to that standard (web-ready)? If the client can give me a 72dpi RGB headshot and expect me to make it pretty in a magazine ad, I should be able to give you a 300dpi CMYK headshot and expect you to make it work on the web.
