I use photoshop and illustrator very rarely these days. Most of my work is done in InDesign and Fireworks. I will say that Illustrator can be annoyingly slow at times. There's not much that was added after Illustrator 10 that I find useful. I think it's all that crap that's slowing it down. I mostly use it for logos and drawing with the pen tool. I've been using it since version '88 and think's it's still the best tool for drawing.

Illustrator is just awful! Freehand was and is a far superior program. Years back when Adobe bought out Macromedia I thought maybe Illustrator may begin to use some of Freehand features such as multiple pages in a document. They did but they didn't do it till version CS4 and even then it was rubbish. And the clipping function is terrible too . If I put an object into a clipping mask why can I still click on it outside of the mask?? It doesn't make sense!! Also if I use the blend tool on two objects I to go back into the menu to edit its attributes! I really dread using illustrator, the only other program I hate more is Quark! InDesign is brilliant though.
- Yeah, that's what i thought was great about the way Freehand handled masks. Although it was annoying if you wanted to edit the contents of tha mask, but not nearly as annoying as grabbing things that are masked like happens in Illi. I just manage masked elements by locking them.Josev

I'm not a member of this club, but AI 10 was a superior product to the CS line.

I like Illustrator. I wish Freehand were still around too, but Illustrator holds its own.

Huh. So, i don't recall ever being affected by this as I always do sized raster output from Photoshop—but.. there's no simple (bodge—free, I mean) way to flatten a Clipped bitmap to the size you want it?
That is FUCKING STUPID.
It should be just a basic Right-Click option "Flatten Clipping Mask" or something, but no.
Are there *any* decent, contemporary Illustrator competitors?
I already have the misfortune of using CorelDraw before some witty jokesmith mentions that.

Loved it up to CS2, that and anything after has been fucking garbage.
Shit like this feels like it was made in an Indian coding sweatshop, who have never even used a design app before
