Anyone else blighted by this - there isn't a cure at the moment, and there's lots of people bsodding their machine trying to replace the system files that it latches onto. No av catches it, nothing can fix it yet.
I've only been minorly inconvenienced by it, but am a bit anxious that my machine might be sending out millions of mails without my knowledge.
Be careful out there : /

how do i catch it?
- Honestly I don't know... p2p ? torrents, the usual suspects.
I'd been really good lately, too : /mikotondria3 - usually Outlook, MSN, PDF, Flash are the entry pointsPIZZA

How do you find out if you have this?

<insert quirky Apple/Mac related joke here>

backup and reformat?

Set fire to your hard drive and replace with a new one --it's the only known cure

Follow Shaney's link, if that doesn't work then copy your files to an external disc, and do a low level format and reinstall of your PC. Scan your external disc.
The bad news is that virus/spyware infections are akin to cockroaches, the fact that you've seen one doesn't mean there is only one.
Upgrade to W7, better yet, get a Mac :-)

sorry, @idiots, tried xdelbox's solution there, to no avail : /

ok - so I am, right now, running a Linux install that has an a/v, rootkit app on it.
I am using Linux, right now !! Quite excited. Doesnt look or feel familiar at all. Nice change.
Anyone do a dual boot thingy at all, if so why, and is it any good ?

ok_not_ok is right, def back up and reformat.
a windows format and re-install typically takes about 45 min. prolly a lot less than you spent with all that bloated software.
plus it's nice starting with a clean slate every once in a while.

I do not miss the time wasted on trying to research crap like this.

start a thread on bleepingcomputer.com. they have pretty good mods on there that can really help remove viruses. they usually require multiple steps, utilizing log files and stuff. that shit gets pretty complicated.
