Fuck me. That muppet bloke who's picture I posted up on the previous page is actually a graphic designer. He's one of the 100 top designers in the world in fact. Look...
"Wilhelm Derksen Voted "Top Designer"
Wil is definately one of the top creative minds in the world, and will rise to great heights for his clients. Including riding shotgun in a small helicopter (as pictured above at right) with cameras in-hand, if that's what it takes to get the job done.
The good news is that you still have a chance to work with Wil, saving time and money, before the word gets out and he becomes world-renown. :-)
Until then, he'll help your company and employees, products and services recieve their due recognition and acollades— that is his promise."
( I think he means 'world renowned' )
Here he is, meeting his own ego in a helicopter. Awesome bloke. Awesome.
The one on the right is saying "I can smell your ass, please open the window" and the one on the left is saying "I will not, because it smells absolutely divine".
Good stuff. That portfolio is without any shadow of a doubt one of the top 100 in the world. No doubt at all about that.
Top 100.
- Shame the spraymount started giving up at the corners really. Apart from that though... Top 100.Tallyhoho

April Fool's doesn't have a brand. No colours, no phrasing or messaging but the name of the day itself, no symbols, no characters or tales told, no traditional meals or gifts. Even the pranks change wildly from person to person, year to year, without consistency.
It is anti-brand.Does brand require to have colors, phrase, messaging, characters etc?
I think you maybe thinking brand is two dimensional. I feel as though brand is something you understand commonly with out messaging. As per symbol, I think a symbol does not need to be something thats graphical but rather a core essence that provide meaning.
A person can be branded but they do not require necessary items that you have provided. Their brand is carried through their actions and reactions. And the perception that follows is the brand.

Please then JSK, tell us how you see the existing April Fools brand as it currently stands. Give us some bullet points or a quick paragraph, just out of interest and a desire to have some good creative dialogue. Maybe we can learn something here.

If April's Fools day was an anti-brand, how is that many corps are taking advantage of such to create a brand? If the day did not have brand tangibility, it couldnt be used as vehicle to carry out brand activities. A vehicular item can conveyed to notion of new types of a channel. Much like X-Mas.
- Cool story, brah.********
- I don't think the cops are trying to do that. Oh wait, I mis-read. Eye-typo.Tallyhoho

I would rebrand April Fool's so that it's on a different day every year. Having it on April 1st every year is dumb. Nothing ever fools anyone, and the person trying to do the fooling always ends up looking like a loser jackass.
Also, I would set it in ITC Jokerman.

I bet you're an absolute storm in those client meetings JSK.
Do you do that thing where you get so impassioned about what you're saying that you swallow your own epiglotis mid-adjective?

April Fools day needs more edge. It needs to be more relevant in today's times and society. I'm thinking it needs to make more of a connection to the people, beCOME the people. For the people. It needs more pop and a when people here "April Fools" they immediately think "oh I GOTTA have that."
Can you tell I work with Marketers?

I'm with i_monk on this one. It's just a day of practical jokes waiting to be branded, not rebranded imo. Lots of people don't even recognize April 1st as 'April Fools Day'...
But to give an example of a holiday rebranding:
Austin based firm, Under Construction, took on rebranding Valentines day. It was featured on the Studio360 podcast I get.
link > http://www.studio360.org/episode…
if you go to the link there's downloadable pdfs of the redesign and their new valentines stationary.here's part of the new mark
http://www.studio360.org/img/149…- i was listening to that Studio360 show in the car with friends, and they all thought graphic designers were retarded.Douglas
- There is that perception of jokes and mischief, I feel as though that is a quality of brand.********
- Xmas is no longer xmas but holidays per political correctness********
- aren't designers retarded? i mean...how could anyone possibly be so passionate and interested in what they do for a living that they would want to pursue it outside of the office? hahamaliah
- living that they would want to pursue it outside of the office? haha. i feel yamaliah
- And i just don't see much of a collective opinion about April Fools. It's not observed by most and it hasn't been commercialized yet, so it kinda goes unnoticed by most.maliah
- commercialized yet, so it kinda goes unnoticed. PLUS there's no candy or booze involved...maliah
- maliah doesn't get invited to the good parties.********
- nope, i throw em. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...maliah

I feel that I have brought this thread into discord and chaos.
I apologise profusely to JSK, who has been a very good friend to me over the years, and I wish now to withdraw in humility in order to reflect upon my actions today.

without a solid history to build from it may be difficult but there are accounts and bits of folklore to build a strong foundation from.
possibly throw in some off beat characters for marketing reference and team up with hallmark for a seasonal launch
some PSAs ala http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hom… with a site to upload comment/vote the pranks and your tradition is done
this would in turn send a huge spike of prank gadgets/toys/apps cash flow through the economy
- quack0
it's visual branding could be a cross between the MAD satire and Playboy's hidden logos

I would turn the "o's" in "Fool's" into tits.
Class it up a bit.

It would be so easy to brand April Fool's Day too. There are countless trickster characters that could be borrowed, or their parts rearranged into a ™-able figure, and from there you get a colour scheme...
