I was called Baka gaijin by 3 salarymen on the ginza line 2 years ago. I don't think they thought I understood what it meant.
- 'Baka Gaijin' = 'Stupid foreigner'
But I still love them!sebastianfrench

I have a cousin in the navy who is stationed over there. SHe says that yeah, she'll walk into a shop and the keeper will just start yelling "You leave now! No Gaijin!"
Pretty awesome.

- It was in the news, group of Navy men raped a 14yo girl and got away with no punishment. Bunch of assholes. No Gaijin!sebastianfrench

Can you stay in a love hotel for a week? I went to one for a night stay. =P 100 bucks a night and they are pretty big.

I stayed in Shinjuku, great vibrant district. We found it easy to get around by train..

Oh and I am staying at the sunroute shinjuku in about 2.5 weeks. I got a serious deal on the hotel. That hotel is often less expensive than others in the area. It is 1 block from shinjuku station south exit.
Peter knows what he is talking about as far as not staying in shinjuku/shibuya though. It is an expensive area, but I am worth it. For the most part I would try to stay somewhere near the Yamanote line train though.
Speaking of that, I did this over the weekend; showing someone how flash and audio/video work together and made something kinda neat.
- Yeah, true, Yamanote is all right. But any station on the other half of the loop have almost nothing in terms of fun. Vouching for the "West" part of the loop.Peter

Stay anywhere near the Yamanote railway line - it gets you to all the main places and it runs in a loop so if you miss your stop the first time you can wake up and get off next time around...
- Or...get off next station and take the coming train back one stop, instead of wasting half an hour doing nothing?Peter

re: "bring money",
Public transportation almost works as a charm here. Trains & subways comes/leaves frequently and aren't normally delayed.
So instead of staying at big pricey stations like Shinjuku or Shibuya you'd save some good yen just staying a couple of stations away.Tip 2: use that money to buy things.

I stayed at my girl's sister's apartment in Ebisu. I would just say to stay somewhere close to the Yamanote train line. That's your best bet for getting around tokyo.
