After a few weeks of using Brave instead of Google... it's pretty shit.
It has an annoying AI, but that can be shut off. Otherwise it does pretty much all the annoying things Google does: ignores Boolean operators, ignores the words you used / uses synonyms, and searches for other things and then suggests your original search. And its image search is pretty awful.

All I've seen and read in the last 2-3 years points to a sharp turn Google took from the original idea. So, I decided to delete both of my Google accounts this week as part of my plan to use less and less Big Tech companies.

Aside from anything, Google search is just .. useless these days.
Example from just now - it gets this completely wrong and doesn't even offer a "Did you mean Shahed?" (which I didn't).
Bing gives an accurate answer.

Youtube is utter shit these days.
Any video over 8 minutes gets the longer ad break treatment, my recommended feed is almost entirely things I've already watched or put on my Watch Later list, and now music from bands I've never heard of. I can skip over a video a hundred times and it stays on my list until I tell Youtube to remove it, while new videos from channels or topics I regularly watch don't show up unless I search for them. A chunk of each video is the creator begging for likes and subscribes and promoting a sponsor or Patreon because they keep getting fucked by changes to the algorithm.
Someone out there has to be making a Youtube replacement.
