I have to admit I expected a little more after Steve said it had to be better than an iPhone AND better than a laptop...

Fuck me, you could've just posted your opinion in the: apple tablet launch thread!
Common sense...you don't have it.

^ Better then iPhone because of a bigger screen, better then a laptop because it will take a year for your grandma to learn to email. With this she will be emailing you after 5 minutes.

I want to produce. I don't want a product.

It sounds like you are trying to justify it's existence, which says more than words can. The more I think about the ipad, the more I think it's just a Palm Pilot for 2010.
That picture frame comparison is pretty ridiculous, no offense. But are you going to buy $500 (minimum) ipad to sit on your table and display photos? plus you can get one of those cheesy digital frames for under $100 now anyhow.
It's supposed to fill the void between an iphone and a laptop...so what now I need 3 devices to all do pretty much the same thing. Give me a break, if anything most people need less technology not more. I pity the fool that spends his entire day on his laptop/phone/ipad.
Tweet #1: "Just wanted to say hold on one sec to my fans, I'm walking from my computer to my kitchen and I need to grab my ipad real quick..."
- who needs a digital frame when there's a screen saver that does the same thing... I don't get those frames at allcamer

- I agree, the 2 screen folding ability is a good idea. At least it wont be so awkward to carry around.designbot
- i like thatfugged
- Will you buy it?raf
- yes********
- plus it has innovative functionality... the iPad probably eventually will.zarkonite
- The Courier merges physical and digital technology (in concept). This is where the bar should be set.blaw
- It would be like writing on a table with a magic pen.blaw

- you take the handwriting recognition testsversion3
- how can you not love that. awesomesofakingbanned
- I've been using a modbook for nearly 2 years and trust me. Handwriting recog. works great but is waaaaay too slow vs typing.gron
- why the fuck don't they actually try making this shit instead of the vapourware********

i like the folding pad and the video on Gizmodo makes me think it is something I could use -considering I work as a design researcher ;)
- If MSFT could release this soon they'd finally manage to punch Apple in the face. Big IF...monkeyshine

Ok i get it. But...
1. ebook readers are gay
2. Digital Picture frames are for grandparentsI dont think this device is useless. Im waiting to see how developers take it. What Id like.
1. the ultimate universal remote.
2. a second display for my monitor with touch input (specifically for audio apps)
3. an sdCard reader or something (this would be the best way to quickly organize photos from an sdCard)Until I see functionality that I actually care about Im staying away. Fuck ebooks and digital picture frames.

- touch screen music app integration would be dopecamer
- I thought about the universal remote thingy. Would be great to run your appliances/lighting from...Not_Just_Another

They should atleast call it a iTab instead of the iPad period stopper.

I know that some people are paid to defend crappy products, but I can't understand people doing this for free

Well, as much as I hate to admit it, the Apple-verse, iAnything, iEverywhere, iPad may be an actual precursor to a solution for people who still like to read. If content starts getting delivered in more than just the printed word, on a consistent, reproducible basis, information dissemination devices like this iPad may actually be plowing the field.
Is v.1.0 disappointing? Hell, yes; no question this is a v.1.0 device. Is the future it presents at least compelling? Indeed, I think it is. Do I hope there will be competing devices that will kick its ass? Yes, I do - especially ones that can be used on a rural farm, say in Uganda or Bangladesh or Mozambique or, for that matter, Tennessee or Ontario.
Welcome to the future. Or, the apocalypse - you decide. Or...

3. Browsing the web casually. Imagine having this thing next to you while you watch tv. You can quickly check your gmail, nyt, and whatever else it is you do. I know it's missing flash but it's not a deal breaker.
Imagine getting off your fucking ass and out of the house, or god forbid... off the internet for 30 seconds or more.
- but I can do that on my iphone.monkeyshine
- Yeah, that Flash stuff is just a fad. It's only been the most entertaining part of the Web for a decade or so.blaw
- Temper phrases like "the most" with realism, please. :)blaw

Also, what's all the damn hype about it being a picture frame?
Really? People buy digital picture frames for $500? L-to-the-O-to-the-mother-fucking...
- i use electrical tape on my frames.. its the same thing..e-pill

I've noticed everyone who says "look at how much more you get with the iPad than the Kindle for almost the same price" But they forget the Kindle comes with free 3G for the life of the device. Your monthly AT&T data plan on that iPad will add up pretty quick.
