It is NOT a ‘Kindle-killer’ – it's has a backlit screen which will give you a fucking headache after a few pages. Apple seem to have overlooked that point when promoting iBooks in the keynote.

Yup, I just found this out as well.
ipad = migraine inducer.
It's not going to be good for reading for more than 10 minutes, regardless of what Apple says. It's LED back lit.

Jobs is probably testing the waters with the ipad, taking on the netbook market first. The guys right, if your looking for something to browse the net, why on earth would by a 400-500 dollar net book that runs crappy pc software! I'm sure by this time next year we will see this evolve into a MacBook or iMac machine!
Personally I just want something I can load Photoshop on!- yeah, the evolution of the iPad is going to be greaternexbcn

We are going to see more and more of this kind of computing devices that are tailored for some people, people that has some particular computing needs that don't necessarily require a "full-fledged" computer with a traditional OS.

I'm hoping the 2nd Gen will get the Pixel iQ display....amazing.
People are missing the point of this device, it's future will depend on what 3rd party developers produce, I think many will be shocked by the usability of this 12 months from now.
Oh, and I predict that 'iPad' won't be it's launch name.....

the picture frame comparison was pretty crappy.

i would rather buy a netbook for 200-400 bucks so i can listen to music and surf the web at the same time
- Novel idea. They should coin a term for this idea. I declare it be called 'multi-tasking.'ETM

I think it's humorous to hear the people speculating on what "Steve is thinking" and how it's just 1.0 and will get awesome sauce later, etc... if Microsoft released the iPad (with that name especially) - oh the disdain you'd hear from all sides.
I think truth is...Steve Jobs has historically set the bar high...he even said something about how this thing can't be a big iPhone and then he releases something that is pretty much the iPhones big dumb brother...that is surprising to a lot of people - definitely surprised me.
Alberto Alessi said something about how one has to be willing to fail in order to truly innovate. I don't hold it against Apple that they released a dud...I'm sure they'll come back with something beautiful and functional. But this ain't it.
