No wonder this country is falling apart right now.
- Seems really un-productive and daft.
Depressing reallyPhanLo - yup. fuck that noisejagara
- starting your day with natto beans is brutal.garbage
- Have you had natto? What's it like?jagara
- Natto is an acquired taste. It smells like a funky cheese, has the mouth feel of slimy okra beans, but with the little sauce packs over some rice...Chefs kiss.stoplying
- It's like eating the freshly inseminated eggs of a bitter cheese river monster.garbage
- It looks absolutely disgusting (slimy threads), but some delicious things do.jagara
- I occasionally like strong cheese, which is a disgusting concept in itself.jagara
- it coats your mouth with a heavy film of rot.bezoar

Japanese language would be way easier to learn if they didn't have 2 alphabets and 1000's of kanji.
Romanji alone would be sufficient...
- okemilfhunter
- very coolpango
- This one hack would make the entire language easier!shapesalad
- for youpango
- i think 10,000 characters is basic reading level loldoesnotexist
- 4, actually - kanji, hiragana, katagana and romaji as a bonys. Learning a mere 2500 characters will give you low level proficiency. Start today. Fun!jagara

I just finished Geddy Lee's latest book, "My Effin Life" - which was a great read - and Rush only played 4 shoes in Japan throughout their career. The reason for this is when they were in their hotel lobby in Japan, they witnessed a man roughing up a woman. The staff did nothing to stop it so the band intervened and was met with resistance from the staff to let it be. Turns out it was a known Yakuza member roughing up his woman which disgusted the band and they agreed to never play in a country that allows that to happen.
- Japan defo has some strange societal norms. Shame Shapesalad isn't here anymore, he always piped up about how mental things were there.PhanLo
- Hah. Can see that. Not only does society teach you not to intervene, for foreigners, at times, it teaches you not to care;Peter
- A guy was "roughed up" middle of Shibuya. Culprits left; crowd looked at the fella, blood pouring out the back of his head, doing nothing...Peter
- ...I went over, assessed, called for ambulance. But what happened was the crowd started blaming me over the phone. "A foreigner here was...Peter
- ...so to not take the blame for the consequences of the functions of social culture and face possible jail time I had to remove myself.Peter
- Continuity4
- Is it because they don't trust foreigners and they want to be extra sure?palimpsest
- There's gotta be a better way than tacking 5 extra hours on the day, though.Continuity
- Time is a flat circle. 24 hours is just *aléatoire*.palimpsest
- A more precise directive would have been: No drinking if you're having fun.palimpsest
- time works differently in japan...pango

- Could they be implying "unitl 5am"?stoplying
- the ❤ in the NO is such a subtle dick moveKrassy
- stoplying, yes, that's exactly what they're doing, fairly common tactic in asiaimbecile
- Yes Stoplying-san, writing 29:00 they imply 5am. It's common way to write "one evening duration" in Japan.sephil
- Ah, thats right, sephil-kun — you live in Japan, don't you?Continuity
- Yes Continuity-sama. I do.sephil
- Nice, sephil-dono! Expect me to reach out to on LinkedIn soon, I've been having some Japan thoughts in the last few months, and might want to pick your brain.Continuity

- Daily life in Japan is very inexpensive at the moment, with the yen being at its weakest in 30 years.spl33nidoru
- Spent 6 months there last year, most expensive meal : $25, usual meal : $5-$10
To-go food court meals are 50% off after certain times.spl33nidoru - *hoursspl33nidoru
- unbelievable._niko
- And I'm talking about central Tokyo.
You can of course spend much more if you want, but the prices I listed are for regular meals without trying to save moneyspl33nidoru - It's to do with the exchange rate. The Yen has really weakened over the last 4 years.mutanthands
- Go to Tokyo! If you got kids they'll love it! Food is amazing, not overpriced. Substantially better quality food than you'll get in the US for the same cost.microkorg
- Even the Sushi/Sushimi you get in the supermarkets is better quality than some restaurants at home. ;)microkorg
- And even if the holiday is a little more expensive, it's a life experience! Tokyo will blow your kids minds. Boston is the same as any other US city.microkorg
