no idea how to do it with one tag. it might actually be impossible...
see if you can find a website that seems to do what you're doing and steal the source code.
- BattleAxe0
use span tags create a class and add it as needed
- <juhls
- CMS friendly !? dont thinkblackspade
- <<<bigtrick

div { padding: 25px; background: #333; width: 200px; overflow: auto;}
h1 { display: inline; padding: 5px; margin: 0; background: #d00;color: #fff; font: 18px/30px verdana;}<div><h1>here is some text. here is some more text on a longer line.</h1></div>
- sort of... but because it's inline the padding gets fucked on different lines7point34

how are spans not CMS friendly ??
- blackspade0
yea close :/ hmmph
- Etype0
Why don't you just have a floating div over a graphic that is in the shape of the text you want... might take a few try's to line up how you want it.
- not sure I get you, the shape of the text will change depending on what heading is typed into CMS ?blackspade
- the graphic would be the bkEtype
- yes correct...Etype
- no good for CMS, client wont create new graphics each time, ok for a static siteblackspade

Sounds like you need to get a new CSS guy at your work!!
He sounds like a lazy sod who isnt willing to do any R&D work enhance the work that you guys are punting out.The guys we have actually enjoy it when theres something a bit different in designs and like the challenge of trying something new and experimentation.
Walk up to the back of the guys chair, give it a healthy kick and exclaim "lazy prick!"
lol
- yea, low budget, work overloaded on 1 guy, u know the story, was trying to solve to speed it upblackspade
- ah oks , i'll let him off.
dont bother with that kick then ;)23kon

- ahh it is too :/blackspade
- not flash.canuck
- says its flash ??blackspade
- actually maybe not doesnt seem to be in the sourceblackspade
- its using sifr or similar, turn off the CSS and youll see (so does rely on flash)blackspade

i fear that the issue at hand is there are any number of ways to do it for static text, but as far as dynamic user input... i don't see it happening easily or at all.
- true that yea, worth a shot, im sure someone somewhere has solved this :/blackspade
- ckentish0
why does'nt your CMS automatically create <p> tags when the client inserts a carriage return in the content? The there wouldn't be a problem...
- doesn'tckentish
- the=thenckentish
- yea I bought that up. Basiccally said "no its not going to do that"blackspade
- weird - every CMS i've ever used does that...ckentish
- it will insert a <br> not a </p>blackspade
- just do a str_replace in the output/template ?? what cms is it ?mikotondria3
- no sure re:cms will askblackspade
- blackspade0
http://www.mcfc.co.uk/ is using flash
- 7point340
it's a not a carriage return though is it?
he wants it to organically flow, even if the header is only one sentence. this requires the user to know how many characters to type before entering a return. this makes no sense.
you wouldn't
type like this just
to hack a style.

ive came across this before i think the diagnosis was not a good one...
i think we eneded up setting the font size and using a background image.let me consult my bag of tricks
- hmm yea not ideal, think id go back to drawing board if that was the caseblackspade
- please do. i'd be interested in seeing a solution7point34
- BattleAxe0
check the source
http://checkoutep.com/test.htmlstatically very easy
dynamically easy as well if your CMS is designed to handle these enteries
you can easily specify where the dynamic content is going to be inserted and apply the proper styling to that area
you can condition the entries to check to see where it should be placed based on a category or title
the issue sounds like your CMS not the CSS
- nice will take anotehr look from home, can tis have horiz padding as well as vertical ?blackspade
- play around with different values to tweek it , but yesBattleAxe
- bzsaw0
Using 7point34's code I tried this.
http://www.buzzsawstudios.com/gu…What else are you looking for in this?
- I see your pic now. It didn't show up before.bzsaw
- theres no padding around the text - need the colour to be padded not tight around each lineblackspade
