So we moved desks today and to say hi to all our new neighbors i decided to play some really nice monday morning music. 5 seconds after i start the music i have a guy that after a year and a half of working here i've never seen before and he was like hey turn it down. Im like ok i'll turn it down. 10 secs after the sam...e guy amd a totally weirder looking one come back and say "hey turn that off!" no please no nothing. Theseguys are seating like 30 feet away from me. I thought we were in a "creative" environment. Its ok... Tomorrow is another day... And i wont be playing nice monday music. Get ready for some fucking trash grind metal core shit.

I was playing explosions in the sky - the earth is not a cold place.
- Hard to object to this, if you don' like then it kinda just fades into the background...ismith
- what is wrong with these people? they must be stupid.katekelly
- They prefer to have control over what they listen to. Especially on a Monday.luckyorphan

If you weren't wearing headphones, then yes, it's kinda rude.
- I wouldn't say rude, but just kinda presumptuous.luckyorphan

So you moved over to their end of the forest and unilaterally decided to subject them to your music? On a Monday morning? And you're surprised they were irritated? And you've come here to moan about their 'lack of creativity'?
Whereabouts do you lie on the autistic spectrum?
- i think he just kind of leans on it casually. you know, being a creative and all.********

I think you are in the wrong man. Why would they want to listen to "your music"?

I was listening to my music myself... are you all for real... well I guess we are all wrong then. Before we moved desks we were all cool with playing music. if you dont play music all you hear is phones ringing and people typing and clicking on their mouse. too corporate for my taste... but I guess thats just me
- or maybe you were in a more tolerant group of people before.Josev

I once got put on Academic Probation in college, the official reason being "playing loud music." Cool... no one had a problem with it until the faculty called them out for having shitty work.
Music > studio noise any day

have a quiet word with their boss or manager about their rudeness.
Rudeness is far worse for the working environment than a little music however subjectively tedious and annoying it can be.Failing that, create an hour long mp3 of a really annoying ''vvvVZZZZZZZYYRRTRTTNNNGNGGGGG' sound that gradually gets louder and louder from 0db, turn your speakers right up, start it playing and walk away. If it sounds mechanical enough, they won't think to look at your speakers, and they'll spend ages being gradually annoyed and distracted, then searching for something, possibly calling for maintenance to fix the aircon and generally being inconvenienced.
- and their boss wouldn't say anything to them right? please.zenmasterfoo
- just keep going up, its amazing how high up you can go if you're polite.mikotondria3

I don't see the problem if it's at 'personal' volume unless you agreed beforehand to headphones only... Sure you wanna respect other people's taste but there's a point where it's just pedantic...

I actually did the same thing. I moved to a different cubicle, and started playing some music. Next thing I knew, a account executive walked over and put me in a headlock. Things were weird afterwards, especially when we made pitches together.

is more annoying when people speaks really loud while on their phone.
