Pretty nice, I like the 50's/60s palette
the handle could be better but overall it's rather nice.

i dig the icon but the lettering looks squashed / flat.
makes me assume that the coffee will be flat as well.
or that only squarish, stocky, fat people will patron the shop.
- "makes me assume that the coffee will be flat as well." LOLCOCK!raskolnikov

nice!
the dot on the i kinda bugs me cause its not aligned with the the stroke on the right.

i like it, but when you size it down you loose the mug and just maintain the "U". don't know if you wanna try and bring the mug out a bit more. But like Mishga says, nice idea. Also maybe space out the font in "union" not a fan of it that tight.

Really, really nice logo mark!
"i dig the icon but the lettering looks squashed / flat."
I agree with that. especially between the "u" and the "n" in union, you need to add letterspacing so you can see the individual letter forms a bit better.

use brown not black
- why?detritus
- coffee is brown, warmer, more retro, better harmonies with the selected contrast colors...inkpink
- My coffee is black as night.detritus
- If something is "coffee colored" what color would that look like? Not that you can't use black, but people do associate brown with coffee.Brand0
- dark brown!akrokdesign
- soynutz70
Have you tried the "U" as the mug? not just the center cut out?
- may read 'onion' – it's already closeraskolnikov
- well i didn't mean in the logotype, i see where that could have been misunderstood.soynutz7

Kind of looks like the cup is being pissed into Could the opening in the U be steam rather than a stream?

- nice suggestion. a little bit softer.baseline_shift
- < i can't stand this. horrible.********
- i guess "bracketed" serif would be teh correct lingo.inkpink
- nice one ! ;)andreiom
- admit there's some bad characters but i think it would workinkpink
- That is NOT what Clarendon Extended looks like. Those letterforms have bene totally jacked with.duckofrubber
- I take it back, it seems to be...duckofrubber
- even if it wasn't jacked with, it's still jacked up. look at that lowercase e and x. abysmal.********
- yeah i was surprised by the image.. not what i recall my copy looking like...inkpink
- but whatever the "union" here is fineinkpink
- Clarendon = starbuck's over used type face on their products, don't go thereakoni

very nice direction. my concern would be about scaling it down as well. it's my only criticism. other than that, very nice indeed.
- pshhh..everyone talks about this...it's really not an issuemonospaced
- Yeh, they'll never need to put it on anything that goes with coffee or tea...luckyorphan
- ...like sugar packets, tea bags, coffee stirrers, etc.luckyorphan
- if they're printing at a decent resolution, it won't be an issue, is what I meanmonospaced
- < I see.luckyorphan

thnx for the suggestions guys !

yeah, good concept. needs more thought on the execution.

man, your logo crit, kicked my logo crits ass...

I'd like it if you were more confident with bringing out the (let's face it, essential) coffee-cup details. The handle and the vapour should, imo, be much more prominent. The handle is particularily insipid - it's neither delicate enough to represent an espresso cup, nor beefy enough for a Central Perk-like double-fister mug.
Personally, I quite like the direction the type choice has taken you - but were I you, I'd spend a wee while tweaking it to make it a little friendlier, a little more distinct at small scales.

I agree with detritus on this one. The cup itself needs a better handle, and the steam could be steamier. Explore a little more contrast in the "U" letterform (cup gets bigger?).
Although we might not "like" the ultimate type treatment, I think it is ultimately unique. It could be refined, but I would stick with this recognizable identity instead of changing it altogether.
I like the palette, but it wouldn't hurt to throw in one contemporary color. Something neutral perhaps, just in case they come out with a "high-end" line.
Carry on.

I like the mark allot, but not the type at all.

Nice idea, I did not see the coffee cup at first only the U, but it works really well.

Can you make the i or the dot of the eye look like a cup of coffee/tea...???!!! It's nice and centered in the name of the place UNION... ; )...
