Even better, return it after Christmas and say it was a gift. Maybe even less hassle with an open box.

call 1800 4 MY XBOX
provide them with a serial number and they will provide you with instructions on how to send the xbox back to them for repair/replacementif you've had it modded..make sure that the sticker on the front is intact
when you send it to them, disconnect the hard drive and if you have had it modded, you will need to re-mod it
- thanks kinetic. I will do this tonight. and no mods on it, so I'm in the clear.Point5

NO NO NO. I get that all the time,
Just unplug your xbox then plug in back in.
Only send it to microsoft after you have tried to the above several times.
I have gotten the red ring of death about 20x but nothing is wrong with my xbox.
PS. this is my second xbox box after the first ring of real death lol

PS. If you do buy an xbox, you can get one with out a hard drive. That way you can slap on your old hard drive and get a credit for your broken machine, $40 I believe.

you can request a repair/replacement online:
xbox.com/support/
they used to send you a box, but now you have to provide your own. just print the label they email you and stick it on the box. mine died for the 2nd time last week, just sent it in yesterday.
- no need to pay for shipping or anything if it's under warrantyMilan

btw, i don't know a single person whose xbox hasn't died at least once...

My neighbors xbox has died 3 times. They are pieces of shit. OG Nintendo all the way.

I was waiting for this to happen. I have had absolutely no problem with it at all over the past year; then when I turned it on earlier this week I got slapped with that red ring of death that I had only heard about.
It was only fitting. 8 days ago my HD failed in my iMac, so this was just the icing on the cake.
FML.

amazing.
how can you put out a product that doesn't work?
why isn't a bigger deal being made out of this?

My XBOX died earlier this year. Sent it in via the links above, and was told I would wait upwards of 8 weeks. Had my XBOX back in two weeks, just in time for Resident Evil 5.

Send it back to microsoft. While you're waiting for the box you can do the towel trick to reboot your xbox.

Just send it into to Microsoft. It'll take 2-3 weeks to get it back but at least it'll work again...
