It certainly wasn't the mind blowing experience I wanted, but it was indeed a great movie unlike anything I've sen on the big screen in a while. Quite intelligent and original, and it looked fantastic.

very mild spoiler rant
all the documentary stuff in the beginning and the end just isn't convincing. it made the movie look like some kind of parody joke. only to be followed by the annoying protagonist. Half of the movie just seemed too much like a joke. why do the aliens have such innate human like behaviors like patting their child in the head? that really threw me off and added to the joke quality.
they keep promoting how there are a lot of secrets in district9, maybe i'm not deep enough but i just don't see any attempts to present any of the "secrets" that is behind it. the only secret i learned was aliens also pat their children on the head.
some parts of the thing made it seem like a skittles commercial, esp with the guys accent and people exploding.
and how did the guy learn alien again? it seemed like he couldn't understand much of what they were saying in the beginning during the eviction. but in the end he can understand fucking difficult words like FUEL or something.

Saw it today. It's a very good film. Original, no or almost none Hollywoodish shit. No Will Smith or any other shitty known actors.
The door is wide open for a sequel at the end and I want a sequel. I want to know what's gonna happend after this.
Highly recommanded, excellent movie.

- I'm glad you liked it ! More than a sequel (which would be more hollywood style), I'm waiting for a video game !!vsplus

Check it out. I thought it was an awesome movie. original, funny, action, and cool weapons n such.
I really liked the main character, I like the way he was a super happy dork and then went all out of wack at the end. His accent was funny as fuck hahahhah
Anyway cool flick, cant wait for the sequel
- I like the fact that we don't expect the guy to be the main character. He really doesn't look like the usual "hero". That's what make s the character evn more interesting.vsplus

- so basically you like the fact that you have low standards?eighteen
- no low standart, he just looks more like a regular guy, not like the usual typical boring sans surprise hollywood star.vsplus

I saw it last night. I haven't seen Moon, so this goes in one of my top movies of the summer. I do agree that the acting was pushed a bit too much... good guy was too comical, bad guy was overly bad. I also wanted violence like City of God. Where it hurts to watch. this was fun violence...most of it.

so it's a documentary? Is it directed by ken burns? What city is district nine in?... cause I don't think I want to visit there.

movie was kind of like watching a video game. I would of rather been playing it then watching it. Whenever i see CGI characters in movies, i have a hard time feeling any emotion for them. Dont get me wrong, i did think there were some awesome action scenes, but it felt like the movie took itself to serious at times.

Thought the opposite - it didn't take itself seriously enough, for example, the bad guy was way too comical and 1 dimensional, and the guys wife was just terrrrible.
Still is a great film though, and bloody amazing for a first timer writer/director, just a little bit b-grade at times. Not the classic I thought it could have been.

^ I agree about there needing to be more seriousness. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to other people, BUT thought it failed a little in that it tried to be humorous, an action flick, and serious at the same time. You've got the cliche corporatization thing, which is right out of robocop/other b-grade movies, the military dudes which reminded me of so many other movies, the action scenes, etc. The story is brilliant and I was drawn in (with the little development that was there) to the alien characters. I wanted more of that.

MAY Be SPOILeR:
a small thing that i've found weird is how can the humans have learn their language in 20 years? It is waaaayyyyy too complicated too understand, even after 20 years. And how can the aliens understand english?
- yup...but most south floridians can't be arsed to learn basic spanish.marychain

also I dont understand how their mothership stays in the air floating during 20 years... how does it stay there without moving?

You know, I didn't expect shit from this other than some aliens and shit, and I got exactly what I expected. Yeah the message is a bit spoon fed, but by God have you seen a Hollywood film lately? They're all like that. I had a good time watching goo being sprayed in all directions.
I watched Lesbian Vampire Killers right after District 9 and the movies worked well together.
It's not clever, but a few spliffs and it's at least entertaining and funny.

A fun see - my only regret was folding in to sloth and torrenting it instead of going out and paying its due respect.
Media companies should set up PayPal guilt funds for people like me who want to send in a little cash by way of apology.
- - I'm actually serious about that last idea - I've wanted something like that for indie music acts for a while now.detritus
