is it worth a shit?
I have an invitation to visit....I have to take a couple days off work anyway.
I haven't been in a VERY long time....but I don't remember anything really remarkable about the place at all.
can anyone recommend it?....or should I politely decline?

My other thought is head down to key west (I live near miami) drink beer and fuck off for a couple days.

memphis. hands down.
never been to either, but the photo ops in memphis and surrounding areas would be worth it alone.my brother and his wife go there often (she has family there) and it sounds pretty cool. but then again, this is all third-hand knowledge so...

Having been to both Memphis and Key West, I'd say Key West no contest. Memphis is a shithole with awesome BBQ and some blues, but that's IT. Key West at least has the beach, but you gotta deal with hearing fucking Jimmy Buffet songs in everywhere you go.
- I'm from Nashville though, so WTF do I know?duckofrubber

I live in Memphis and I can tell you the night life here is great. Beale Street is like a little Bourbon Street but with more opportunities for some great music. May is the best time to come because of "Memphis in May" (The Beale St. Music Festival, BBQ cooking contest, Sunset Symphony) but anytime is worth it.

I went to memphis is homage to my music heroes (I'm a blues musician in my spare time). It's worth going for a couple of days but probably no more. The actual city is a donut, after the 80s unrests all the population moved out to the suburbs, the centre is just there mainly for tourist stuff, but that's worth seeing. Go to Sun Studios, Graceland, Beale St etc. some great musical history there. I really enjoyed it
- arghh I can't type. I'm english I swear. "to memphis IN homage to my musicAL heroes"BaskerviIle
- "I'm a blues musician in my spare time"? Why am I picturing Ralph Macchio and that crazy old harmoica playing bluesman?TheBlueOne

Memphis is definitely worth a VISIT. Lots of culture/food/music. It's a mecca for music, especially Jazz & Blues. Check out Beale Street like BigMatt said for some good music and BBQ.
The country is also beautiful if you can get out for a long drive. Bring lots of film/memory cards :)
PS: Be prepared to be hot!
