"why would they go head to head with what google is best at..?"
because they want to become an advertising network, thats what the xbox is leading up to its a way to get a box under the tv to deliver movies, tv and ADVERTISING through (they dont really care about games in the long run, its just a way to get something under the tv)

It's true, Microsoft could release the most amazing product in the world and everyone would still hate it.

all microsoft things aside, 100 MILLION dollars later on their marketing of bing and it's a massive failure. any company that puts 100 million into a campaign and have it fail so badly is a loser.
- Amen to that.differenz

- how's your tracing an image then running some paint over your cut out tracing business going?********

The interesting thing is that their idea was that the branding was going to be the main differentiator.
You can excuse the ugly logo - there are many successful sites with ugly logos - but I don't find the message (decision engine vs. trad search engine) all that compelling.
Assuming I know what a "decision engine" is, why do I want Microsoft or any other company telling me what decisions to make?

I saw this the other day and thought that my browser had been hijacked

Im a microsoft supporter and am generally disappointed by bing
the logo
the look of the site
the commercials are all something i would have done in high school
nothing like what i thought i would see from microsoft.now as too the fitness of the searches, i dont know - wont be trying it. google works fine

The last thing I want is a computer *deciding* what I want.
It's bad enough Google now returns hits for things with the assumption that you don't know how to spell. I don't mean the corrected spelling prompt when you do spell something wrong, I mean things with similar spelling. Happens all the time with Google Image Search.
