Anyone had any bad ebay experiences? been ripped off, no goods sent etc?

My item ended today and it didn't sell. DAMMIT. Nobody's fault though. I've had a great experience as a buyer, only once item wasn't sent and PayPal gave me a full refund.

Tried to sell my mobile phone because it was shit.
First auction ended with someone asking me to post it "to their cousin in Nigeria"
Had to report it as fraud, ebay deleted the auction and with it any possibility of leaving negative feedback on the bidder.
Second auction ended with a more legitimate buyer who was local to me but paypal then decided to implement their retarded "buyer protection policy" which in a nutshell required me to post the phone, wait for positive feedback on the sale before I got my money.
It's fair to say ebay always was and still is a fucking mess. I don't know why they don't implement some sort of escrow service to stop all that.

my brother got fucked out of a mixer on ebay. -$300. I really haven't bought anything off of there since.
ebay is kind of a clusterfuck of a few honest/some two-bit hacks/and a bunch of shady assholes, in my opinion. i never buy shit from there anymore. and it's too much of a pain in the ass to actually sell something because of the previously stated bullshit.
ebay=waste of time.
- Yeah, selling shit sucks. Buying I think is okay most of the time though.ismith

I stopped when the exchange rate went to shit. Only ever had one dodgy purchase out of 60 or so transactions.... caveat emptor, only go with sellers with good feedback!!
I used to look on there for dirt-cheap computer components etc but I don't trust most of them and besides, there are plenty of dedicated computer-crap sites that I can get it from at the same price. ie. http://www.DealExtreme.com ... Free Shipping!

PS. ebay is the home of perceived value. Do your homework.

Have only had experience as a buyer.
Haven't been ripped yet.

Spotting fakes from real things are a pain in the ass

It helps to view / join forums that are based around what you wish to buy or collect and then start a thread about legitimate sellers and buyers. It may be more work, but it can really help if you're worried about what may happen.
I've never had a bad experience with eBay, but I'm also really careful and never buy anything that has great value (unless I have communicated with the seller beforehand).

Never had any serious problems - but once bought some headphones which I reckon were fake.. the fakes are the biggest issue imo.

Not really bad ebay experiance just a bad paypal experiance. The twats at Paypal thought it would be a great idea to keep £800 of my money for a month even after the goods have been sent out. And then charge me £60 for the fucking privilege of wasting my time. The be frank the complete system is a waste of time, shame as Ebay was a good idea, I just hope there is someone who can provide competition because at the moment it's a rip off for the seller. Fuck Paypal.

sold an old vintage drum machine... guy received it, said it didn't work, sent it back, worked fine. i think he just changed his mind and didn't want to pay for it. lots of little pain in the ass things like that make me not want to bother with it anymore. plus wading thru the tons of bogus offers.

Trying to sell an iphone.
Each time it has sold it has been a fake account or a fake/accidental buy. 4 times now. And apparently I owe ebay money for fees.
Fuck ebay.
- 4 times? that's strange...********
- It's not strange, you could list it 40 times and the same will happen. Wasting your time.jamble

I buy quite a bit, havent sold tho. No problems. One guy didnt ship for two weeks but emailed to apologize but it wasnt a prob. You have to be smart, no stupid bids, read the listing completely and youll be good imo.

Also, people need to use the advanced search completed listings feature to edumacate themselves. It gives you a great idea of current market value for that snoopy sno cone machine youre about to buy.

Sold a pair of trainers to a guy in the US.
Two weeks later he asked for a refund, to his address in Nigeria, as he didn't think postage to Nigeria from the UK wasn't as 'trustworthy' as it was from the UK to Nigeria via the US.
And a refund of the postage from the UK to USA, USA, to South Africa, South Africa back to the UK.
Plus the difference in exchange rates which he said he lost out on.
I got the trainers back. And his refund (without the extra postage shit) i gave him was refunded back to me via paypal - as his account was 'unverified'.
Win Win.

I got badly screwed over last year
Wasn't happy with a camera, so offerend to buy a pricier one. Was in a hurry (xmas pressie) so bought new one and sent old one back. It gets returned to sender. ffs. So I contact him and he doesnt know why, here send it to my gf's house. ok... again returned to sender.
So I try filing a complaint thru ebay. But by the time I realised he was fucking with me, it was past ebay's period of being able to claim. So I go to paypal. No no, I have an open case regarding this item with ebay. ffs the case seems pretty shut to me.
Then I post it one last time, and it gets "lost" in the post. It's unsured up to £50 with royal mail, so I file a claim. Via snail mail.. not possible to do online even.
And that was the end of that. No information on who to contact or anythign and I'm so over this shit I can't be bothered

I once bought some RAM a few years ago, from what seemed to be a pretty big store with great feedback. Got the RAM, it didn't work. They didn't send a refund or a replacement and ebay didn't do anything about it. Never bothered with ebay after this.
My dad bought a stereo system a month ago, which was labeled as first class delivery. He still doesn't have it and I opened a dispute to get the money back. Still waiting on that too.
I just think it's not worth wasting time on ebay.
