Rents Dropping, no ned to live so far out unless you're looking for a loft.

bushwick? i wouldn't.

for the price you will be getting in bushwick you can easily find a same or better apartment anywhere else in a much safer area. why make a cross ocean move to an area that most new yorkers stay away from. not to say bushwish is all bad... it has it ok parts but who needs ok!?!? with the super stress of nyc itself its good to have a nice home to return to.
my 2¢...
- Second that — if you're looking for something in BK, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill are decent areas w/ decent rent.nRIK
- scenek0
the demand to be close to williamsburg drove bushwick rent higher than it's worth.
look at clinton hill and crown/prospect heights.

i just saw one, today. (online) :-)
this one is in the clinton area, its a studio though. not sure what size your looking for. ---> http://newyork.craigslist.org/br…
- funny, i was wondering if clinton was a better area. now i know. thanks. :-)akrokdesign

I live in Clinton Hill (Clinton Hill Chill represent!)
it's "safer" here, you probably won't get shot if you keep your mouth shut and be a good boy. Prospect Heights, Fort Greene, and Clinton Hill are becoming whiteified, i mean gentrified, so the natives are slightly restless, but everyone has been cool to me and the wife in the last 4 yrs here. Fuck Williamsburg and Bushwick is cool if you don't own anything like a computer, car, watch, hat, shoes, coat, tv, cat etc.- you wont get shot in brooklyn... that's ridiculous. unless you're a drug dealer.free_
- well that's not true, but i agree it's pretty safe.scenek
- k, stabbed only.radphotographer
- "you probably won't get shot if you keep your mouth shut and be a good boy. "?? you got to be fucking kidding me!lvl_13
- if you mean stabbed by a busted fixed gear sprocket, or shot by hipster with a llomo camera!lvl_13
- a few kids got shot (while inside their house) last summer, a guy got shot at the deli around the corner a few months agoscenek
- no shit, this isn't williamsburg, there are no fixed gears or hipsters.radphotographer
- okay, but clinton hill is a pretty fucking nice area! there are much worse.lvl_13
- *coming from the guy who only visits there a few times a year.
lvl_13 - LMAO @lvl_13 — yeh, too many fucken hipsters.nRIK
- Wow, even the cats aren't safe?

flatbush. i used to live there. it's a bike ride away from bed stuy. bed stuy is cheap but sketchy in places. it would only take me 15 minutes to ride from flatbush to the berg. if you live off the Q it only takes 30 min to downtown manhattan and rent is pretty cheap. prospect heights is also good. bushwick in my opinion is over-rated, over-priced, and less interesting. central brooklyn is the best. and if you're on a budget, bed stuy and flatbush are where the artists are living.

also, do some research on the true boundaries of these neighborhoods before you start looking at craigslist. realtors tend to move the borders around to charge high rent to people who don't know better.

exacty. lefferts gardens = flatbush. prospect heights sometimes = crown heights. i'd recommend a realtor for rent-stabalized places but if youre just looking for a room to rent you can get most any neighborhood without dealing with much of the bullshit.

lived there. stay away.

Don't move to Bedstuy/Bushwick, you guys are causing Gentrification, creating higher rents and fucking it all up. Why not just move to Williamsburg or Greenpoint.
- You guys, as in not natives, but mostly hipsters.marchelo
- Are you guys black or white?radphotographer
- One person does not cause Gentrification. Big business does.rson
- you're right rson, like the fucken Duane Reades on Marcy Ave and Home Depots, IKEAs... shiiit.nRIK
- No, a bunch of rich kids moving to where real familys live causes gentrification.marchelo

I agree with the rest, stay away from Bushwick/Bedsty. Try Carroll Gardens, Prospect Heights, Park Slope (cheap places do occasionally come up) and Fort Greene. If you're looking for a little further out, the area around Brooklyn college is nice, strangely neighborhoody and you may have an apartment in an old house instead of an apt complex.
In NYC you could try Hells Kitchen, the Upper East Side or the Upper west around Columbia.
- The Lower East Side by the FDR is cheap. It's the boonies but you're still near galleries and fun stuff.CyBrainX

there are people with box cutters there

use to live in bushwick, eh, nothing really that great out there. just stay clear of central bushwick (anything off knickerbocker). North/west is more hipstery (jefferson, dekalb, morgan stop on the L). Lots of drugs prostitution and sex offenders in the central area. Look it up.
