What happens when all of NYC is gentrified - where do the real people go then?
- moogchild0
pr2: True in a sense. However, if you're already bunkerd down in the hood why go anywhere else in the city? Allot is going on around these parts. it's the same no matter what part of the city you're in. Jersey City next cool thing? why not, get on it. When I decide to move out of NYC? I would need an enticing initiative.

No vermin (btw you can call 311 or nyc.gov to report rats).
Lots of garbage though mainly b/c the place isn't totally gentrified yet. When ppl are making minimum wage the last thing they care about is strewn paper on sidewalks.
They'll send paid cleaners to clean up daily when 1 more Donut / Cupcake shop opens up w/in a block of my apt though.
I feel safe here. Although there are attacks on LGBT community (and I get it; people are being pushed out)

Most of what's said above is correct. KIND OF. NYC changes way too quickly so unless you are talking to someone living there right now, the above info is already out of date. Buswick is the next thing after Williamsburg, love it or hate it but thanks to that crime infestation the spaces are dirt cheap (unless you are stupid and come to spend $$, no worries, you will find people who take your money no problem) so there is plenty of art, great bars, more and more cool restaurants. So if you want to be on vanguard of "the next cool thing," yes, come to Bishwick.

I've been in the hood close to 7yrs now. I've been fortunate to have a the same fare slum lord in 2 different spaces. My rent has been on the low end and rent controlled. Now for vermin my cats deal with the rats around and I've delt with the little gangie kid neigbors that after you get to know them they're just trying to make ends meet like all of us. thinking ridgewood in a year or so. overall love it! Bosa Nova Civic Club is the choice spot for me and my girl to go dancing. :)

I lived in Bushwick for seven years, pretty much agree with people's opinions in this thread. If you're lucky got get a great space with 15ft ceilings for a reasonable price close enough to the trains with friendly neighbors.
If you're not so lucky you get a shitty, rat infested hole with a gang member and his crew as your neighbor. I was lucky to live in the first category but had friends who was less lucky.
Now live in Carroll Gardens which is pretty much the opposite of Bushwick, Still miss the open fire hydrants and sidewalk BBQ in the summer.

If you're going to move to Bushwick area, Ridgewood is better.

Astoria is awesome, long island city by the water is beautiful.

Live in a real neighborhood with families and supermarkets and you'll be much happier.

Bushwick is a place where people spend way too much money to live in a sketchy building on a dirty street with neighbors that don't speak English (and probably pay nothing in rent) and they have no place to walk to. They might get a nice loft space, but it most likely comes dirty.
- I agree w/ you on some parts being filthy. Mostly because of bad sanitation plans.bklyndroobeki
