It doesn't make sense for practical reasons.
The rich pay some tax now. If you tax them higher, they'll just move their assets abroad, just like U2 who moved to Holland when Ireland started taxing artists. Or they'll find another way.
What will be the outcome? Even less tax money than now will be collected by the revenue.Lower the tax for them and the rich of the world will move to your country. The outcome? More taxes collected.
- big deal. fuck them.akrokdesign
- THAT SHOWS THE LOVE FOR THEIR OWN COUNTRY.akrokdesign
- I can't take anyone seriously that uses Bono and the other three bozos as a political example.TheBlueOne
- ..and so the problem then is globilization then, and liquid capital, not rich people per se.TheBlueOne
- The really rich had no citizenship for ages. U2 is just a clear example, actual tax avoiding ways are more complex.raf

it seems like we need to first define what "Super" or "Mega" rich is in order to use it in context

From 1980 until now the top 1% in this country went from owning 7% of all wealth to 23% under Bush Jr. while the deficit exploded.
If that is not class warfare, I am unsure what is.
But blame the working guy if that makes you happy.

low taxes doesn't work, you will have to pay the stuff one of an other way...anyway.

demonizing the "rich" is just a pathetic as claiming that people who are under the poverty line are just lazy. stop listening to the media.
- The rich were demonized long before there was a "media"TheBlueOne

Point is, with taxes on the rich being low as they were during the past X amount of years, why are there not more jobs right now? I mean shouldn't some sort of result be needed in order for people to continue to say this shit?

And this whole "Well they'll just move somewhere else!" is true and basically point to the fact of the liquidity of global capital and, if that is being the modus operandi of the world, the concept of the nation-state is already deader than a doornail and we're just pissing in it's grave until the rest of us serfs figure it out.
See, at one point, the rich couldn't really move their money, and thus were obligated to the society in which they were able to gain their wealth. But no, they shit where others eat and just bugger off somewhere else where the hoi polloi aren't so offensive, leaving us to fight over the scraps.
- But then the economy needs their money. You'll either repel them or attract - with taxes.raf

Funny or not, American citizens are among very few nations on the planet who have to fill tax returns and pay US taxes even years after they move out of the country. That defines them as US government property in my book. Will that help to tax the shit out of the rich Americans? Let's hope.
- Please correct me if I'm wrong on that.raf
- Out of Context, this does not mean they have to pay taxes, try using wikipedia********

Seems like this argument always devolves into people arguing whether high taxes are good or bad, in the abstract.
At the end of the day, we are going to have some kind of taxes. The question is where the appropriate rate is, especially for the top bracket.
The current debate, for instance, is whether we should increase the rate from 35% to 38%. That seems perfectly reasonable to me at a time when we are sliding into massive amounts of debt.
You can see the effects of a tax-the-rich or don't-tax-the-rich policy over the past 50 years. 1950s-1970s, there was extremely high taxes on the rich and there was an extremely comfortable middle class with a high standard of living. People had very little debt and it was easy to buy a home and raise kids with just one parent working.
1980s - present, we have had much lower taxes on the rich. The effect was been that wealth has become highly concentrated in the top 1%, and actually the top 0.001% of society. Most families have a high amount of debt, and both parents now have to work to afford a comfortable lifestyle.
Saying that the rich should pay more doesn't mean you hate the rich. It's just being realistic about how society should be structured so that the majority are able to live comfortable lives.

I thought we live in a capitalism country here, not a socialism?
The middle class bitches about the riches. Mean time, senators are getting lifetime health care and pensions after serving only one term.
- To be discussed over a fine single malt perhaps? :)TheBlueOne

Was America socialist before Reagan? No? Then maybe you have no idea what you are talking about. That is the rate that anyone really wants it brought back to.
- America has been a mixed economy since the 1930'sTheBlueOne

"looks like lots of people here want socialism in the US."
AHAHA, please tell me you're joking. If not, go read a book on what socialism is and get back to us.

Some countries have taxes / incentives that discriminate according to gender, so I wonder if tax evasion ever utilises gender identity and how often and easily will governments allow a person to switch between sexes...
- Considering the process, discrimination, and underlying reasons when changing gender using it as a tax dodge is bordering on the imbecilic.face_melter
- Different governments have different criteria. If you make enough it might be worth it as a person. Sometimes women owned companies get grants etc.sofas
