Just drink slowly. Have a glass of water every second drink.

I did this at the beginning of the year, knowing that I drank way too much and it was getting to interfere with my life a little. It doesn't matter if it interferes a little or a lot, it's supposed to be enjoyable and not a task that you HAVE to do to join a group of friends or to have a good time. It's the dessert, not the main course.
If you can get past the initial "oh, comeon, what do you mean you don't drink?" phase, you can go as long as you like. I will say that the first month was tough, it seemed pretty long and I constantly felt like I was excluded from activities, because I wasn't heading to the bar to see my "friends". Well, now that I mention it, are they really friends? I don't see them unless I drink, so what actual impact do they have on my life?
Set a short term goal, like three months, which I have already proven is super doable, and do it. See what changes, see if you miss the people at the bars. What you will probably discover, as I have, is that you feel better, have a pile more money, and only hang out with people you REALLY like and REALLY like you.
You also don't wake up sick. Huge perk.

I don't drink every day, and I have a general rule of not drinking at home (occasional glass of wine with dinner excepted)...but if I'm out and start drinking? Forget it. I get a wee bit of the devil in me and it's straight on to the morning.
My wife doesn't understand why I can't come home after two drinks. I don't either, but it's just a force of nature.

I'd love to see everyone in this thread get together for a drink. That would be epic by the sounds of it!

I'm the same as TheBlueOne. I don't drink when I'm at home or by myself (or with my wife at home, unless she has her friends over). If I have people over the house it's okay to drink. When I'm out with the guys, it usually ends up a scotch, tequila, and beer night.
I 'used' to end up making it to my garage but end up falling asleep in the car with the engine still running. It happened a few times, and my wife, well she got REALLY pissed-- she had every right to. I didn't get caught by the police but I was drinking and driving without even remembering doing it. Hardcore drinking and driving, not that I'm buzzed shit. I do somewhat remember thinking I was okay to drive but can also remember passing out, waking up, and doing like 90 MPH on the highway. Not good. Luckily the highway is a straight line. Now when I go out, I make sure I'm staying at my friends house overnight (in the city) or get a room if I drink.
Case and point, if you're drinking like 'that' make sure you don't do anything that will get you killed or that you don't end up sleeping with whales. If it gets to the point where its directly affecting your life (or family) or other people for that matter, then you need to tone it down or maybe stop altogether (if its that bad). If it isn't affecting anyone, then fuck it. Have fun. Drink up while you still have kidneys.

if it's anything like smoking, just quit. no last one, no date picking, no excuses. don't telly anyone, just stop. if someone offers you a drink at a party or something say you're not interested. you have to be very persistent, and never ever think that this one drink is ok because you're in control: you're not, that's why you want to quit.

I find it hard sometimes, as I have been somewhat conditioned. Being in a band for such a long time, the devils drink was always a part of creating and writing. Rehearsals 4 times a week which always consisted of booze and smoke. Now, if I sit and try to write or record I feel naked if there isn't something on the table ( that is unless I really am naked). I basically have been subsituting the drink for smoke (the herbal kind) and it works. But he always taps me on the shoulder.
For fucks sake I told myself I wasn't going to drink last night and I ended up buying a bottle of Absinthe on the way home from the gym!

I often feel the same way. It's hard. Smoke weed instead I guess.

I've no problem drinking at home or on my own if the girlfriend is away.
In fact the girlfriend is away this weekend and I spent all morning writing a paper and all afternoon digging an allotment so I'm too wrecked to go out and meet up so I'm at home chillin with a drink.
I'm more worried about posting on QBN on a saturday night than the drink I have beside me.... i don't think I've ever done this before...mom!!!

I drink alone all the time. Usually it means 12 beers, QBN, Collab, Twitter and email. Baaaad combination.

And I'm already getting the feeling like I want to drink. Managed to avoid the pub so far. Only have four beers left, might have to stock up if I cave.
