What's the best way to display web site samples on a portfolio site?
Is it a bunch of thumbnails of the sites, which open the sites in new windows? Or is it a bunch of thumbnails which open large screen-captures of the site in the same window?
Or is there some wonderful third way?

If you can get files for a site that you worked on and keep them on your server it's always best. I worked on one site that won a bunch of awards and only stayed live for 3 months . Luckily the guys I worked with on it have all the files hosted on their site, but they've changed the URL twice which broke my links.

But if you're linking to your own domain doesn't that look naff?
- not at all, i keep an archive of no longer live sites on my server. it's the only way to show dead work.********

i like using a screen video capture app to capture video of me navigating through the site. most of my sites have a ton of animation and interactivity, using Camtasia or something similar I can give the viewer a little taste (even if it's sped up or silent) of what the site has to offer.
my old site uses this: http://www.multimediahaam.com/ar…
- That's interesting. I'd have never thought of that.boobs

larger screen shots and then links to the actual sites. no point looking at thumbnails of websites, they tell you nothing.

Very nice site!
I love the way the background changes colour, too- Agreed...nice how it compliments the color of the project.tparsons
