The iphone is for people who want a no nonsense phone that is simple to use. get whatever you think suits your usage and how techy you are.
I love my iphone for its simplicity, you dont need a manual with the thing. When i was home at christmas my cousins little girl who is 5 years old, picked up my iphone and just started using it and playing with the features - instinctively!
I bet the couldnt be said for ANY nokia's or Blackberry's.My mum got a Blackberry a month ago, used it for a couple of days then swapped it for the iphone. blackberry was too fiddly with its menu's n shit like that.
I agree with that too - i had a look at it for a few minutes, couldnt do things, got frustrated, put it down.- tell me you found out how to silence or reject a call "instinctively"rafalski
- waaaay easier than having to go into "settings > profiles > silent" etc all the time.paraselene
- she was playing games n opening n closing apps and navigating round23kon
- more than she would have been able to do on a blackberry/nokia etc23kon

Was your life perfectly fine without one?. If so dinnae bother. If you feel it will enrich your life and help you do stuff which you really needed to, or wanted to do, then yes get one.
I would only consider buying an I phone if I commuted allot and decided I didn't like reading books anymore, or I was very busy and needed to do work emails etc. all the time and had no chance of a reprise from the endless onslaught of information and reachability.
- you can read books on the iPhone!Khurram
- Bad for the eyes mate.chossy
- really? why?Khurram
- reading books on the iPhone doesn't make sense to me. The screen is smallJaline
- it's perfectly fine to read small documents, articles etc.. Also you can make the text bigger! :OKhurram
- I find that my eyes get very tired very quickly when reading text off a small screen. I have no factual evidencechossy
- to support my statement.chossy
- ok, well i'll let you know if i have a problem and my eyes detorirarte. *shrug*Khurram

Well, I can say that I still have a 1st gen iPhone and get all the goodness of the new updates sans the gps and 3g functionality which doesn't bother me at all
Also, if you're getting it on contract, you'll get a free new iPhone whenever that comes out a year into your contract
- With cydia and installous, you can add pretty much every feature any other phone has and many morekalkal

I'd hit it.

agreed chossy.
i do feel that the iphone has enriched my life.
i dont keep a diary and im bad with dates so the calendar works well for me and ive found ive used it more than any other on other phones.
i dont play computer games but have found myself downloading and playing various games a lot, esp the little games like othello for killing 5 minutes while waiting for mates or whatever.
downloading a decibel meter from the app store and videoing the readings helped me launch a successful noise complaint against building works going on nearby me.
its great having email and internet at your fingertips on a decent sized screen and has been handy no end.
i use google maps directions a lot too.
i cant fault it - other than not being able to send pic messages but its something id rarely do anyway. it is a bit pants not being able to view flash sites too. the advantages of the phone well outweigh these though.
- You complained about some noisy building work. I hope it was at 1 in the morning or 5 in the morning.chossy
- no, during the day. was exceeding legal noise levels for 8+ hours on the trot23kon
- it was while i was off and got pissed off with it cos i was trying to work on music23kon
- it worked like. the site was closed over xmas holidays so didnt disturb residents :P23kon

My only gripes with the iPhone:
- Safari occasionally fucks up, requiring a restart
- Copy and paste can only be added with a bizare hack
- No text forwarding
- Seems to generally work better if you restart it every few days

- Over time, my silent switch has become loose and sometimes switches to silent when pulling it out of my pocket

I prefer having an iPod Touch + a cheap phone. Obviously this means you don't have an Internet connection everywhere. I don't pay a lot of money and I still have lots of awesome apps. If you have the money, go for it. It's justified to some people because they use their iPhone a lot. But also think about whether or not you would use your phone more BECAUSE you have one, or do you have one because you already use a phone a lot or need to use one a lot. (you could say that about anything though, I realize)
- +1 I'm in the same boat and so far I like it this way.poolio

I tend to lose at least 2 phones a year, so if you're anywhere near as drunk and high as I am most of the time, I'd say no...

You should. They are awesome. Unless you should be spending the money on your kids' shoes or something.
Hello Jaline. Goodnight Jaline. (you're not in the blog thread is all)

clients are constantly asking for iphone apps. for that reason alone it's worth having one.
- a testing environment?Dancer
- just to know what's out there already - familiarity.23kon
- exactly. it's more about familiarity with the market and a feeling for what works and what doesn't.paraselene

I have a Samsung F700 at the moment, i sometimes browse the net on it so the free 3g web browsing access would be great. Can't say i'd have alot of time to play the games but always nice to have them.
I'm a bit of a gadget nerd so i would probably make use of the Apps best I can and if i can get a Windows based calender that it would sync upto, perfect!
BlackBerrys are excellent for business i think, the screens are too small for what i want though.
How does the iPhone handle email? Could i get my hotmail email without going into Safari?
