I prefer having an iPod Touch + a cheap phone. Obviously this means you don't have an Internet connection everywhere. I don't pay a lot of money and I still have lots of awesome apps. If you have the money, go for it. It's justified to some people because they use their iPhone a lot. But also think about whether or not you would use your phone more BECAUSE you have one, or do you have one because you already use a phone a lot or need to use one a lot. (you could say that about anything though, I realize)
