Refusing to adhere to standards. MS and IE have a big problem with this. IE should donate their code to the open source community. They're never gonna beat a group of developers from all over the world. The more devs join the open source community the better it gets, MS or IE can't compete with that.

Don't like it much, can't do much about it.

Is MS going to buy Opera? I heard that rumours, that IE9 or later will be based on Operas engine.

Somebody should buy them out, Their market share will be growing since all Wiis have Opera installed and it has a respectable market share in the mobile market. I'm not sure if it'll be MS. It's not Google they have Chrome, but I thought this before Google released Chrome. Windows Internet Opera?

If developers got the IE source code, they'd just drop webkit in.

It would be funny that IE goes open source and nobody uses the code.

its probably the best browsing experience ever.

When I read this, I thought the title read Die IE6.
- It doesn't? It really should, oh, can we add outlook/express too?papasmurf82

IE6 still has a depressingly significant market share, but when I can I ramp down my support. If the site works and looks decent, that's good enough for me. I'd rather not invest extra time and effort just because IE renders poorly and I'd rather not be stuck with PNG8s when a PNG24 is best. Lately I've been using IE6-only style sheets when in the past I'd just bust my hump to make it work.

Interestingly, Facebook doesn't support IE6. Maybe the sign of things to come?

pretty soon it will be obsolete, then you will have another browser to complain about. it's a never ending cycle.
- Mojo0
you are wrong, it wont be obsolete SOON. You wouldn't believe the market share that some particular sites have. If your clients' website has a high percentage of IE6 users, you kinda cant just say 'screw you'.
I've been using Dean Edwards' script, makes life easier.

Even if MS bought Opera or apply anything else than trident engine, that wouldn't be end of problems. IE8 is on horizon, IE7 was released in 2006 and we have to struggle with IE6, because 19.6% of idiots didn't make an upgrade.
Meanwhile Opera has 2.4% of market, despite its long presence but Chrome has 3.6% of the market and I think that this is the sign for Opera that some actions need to be taken, otherwise Opera will disappear faster than IE6 or IE7.

My mother is the perfect example of why IE6 is still in existence. She's 62 years old, and her internet knowledge encompasses only search engines, email and internet banking. To her, IE6 is the internet. When I asked her why she hasn't upgraded her browser she said "why should I, it works as it is." She doesn't have the slightest clue that IE6 doesn't really work at all. That a lot of sites might display incorrectly, that it renders type like total shit, it doesn't matter, it's what she knows.
Needless to say I installed FF on her machine as soon as I could. She's been forbidden from using IE6 ever again. My dentist – an very intelligent man with degrees in both engineering and dentistry – also uses IE6.
It'll be around for years to come.

I don't understand why MS pushes updates automatically as a default. I'm talking about at least security updates.
