My mother is the perfect example of why IE6 is still in existence. She's 62 years old, and her internet knowledge encompasses only search engines, email and internet banking. To her, IE6 is the internet. When I asked her why she hasn't upgraded her browser she said "why should I, it works as it is." She doesn't have the slightest clue that IE6 doesn't really work at all. That a lot of sites might display incorrectly, that it renders type like total shit, it doesn't matter, it's what she knows.
Needless to say I installed FF on her machine as soon as I could. She's been forbidden from using IE6 ever again. My dentist – an very intelligent man with degrees in both engineering and dentistry – also uses IE6.
It'll be around for years to come.
