When I was 18 I worked at a classy Hotel in the area that had a Bar/Restaraunt. I managed to work my way up from busser to working the wet bar in the dining room. I held this position for several months, slowly learning that the best way to make tips was to serve the waitstaff drinks. The shift managers also would come back and knock a few down if it was a particularly stressful evening. But I guess someone in upper management caught wind of it and the slug of a manager who I had served a drink to just the night before broke the news to me. Only job i've ever been fired from.

1. Video store, 1999
Got the gig, then showed up looking and feeling like dogshit from too much cheap draught the night before. Walked in, laid down on the cold tile behind the camera. A manager was in the back and peeped me on CCTV. Cocksuckers let me go at lunch.
2. Media firm
After 6 months started taking girls back to the office late at night, telling them that my manager's space was mine. There was always champagne and beer in the fridge. Somehow they found out, the sneaky fucks.

A few years ago a company insisted on hiring me to do newsletter designs. Although I told them I work as a freelancer they still insisted I come in 2 days a week. And I did. The boss "designed" a newsletter template in PowerPoint and I made 3 options in PS. Boss chose option and I went on to code it. Then he asked for more options. I made a few more based on the one I coded. He still asked for more. So, I went on and scripted over 100 "options" with differences between them ever so slight. I sent him links and asked for a decision. I got fired.

I was fired for creating a "unhealthy" work environment. I was caught threatening co-workers with swift violence whenever they asked me a stupid question.

On my first day working as a valet many years ago, I wrecked a car racing another valet down thru the parking garage. I hit a pillar and creased the entire passenger side tip to tail just before I pulled up to the customer who was horrified (she heard the squealing tires). I had just moved back from Europe and claimed "lane ignorance". My manager laughed so hard he farted, and then gave me another chance. I still admire that dude.

never fired..."parted ways" once though : )
fired and laid off are same thing except for semantics. If you have been playing nice and they want you gone its called laid off, if you have pissed them off its called fired. Mine was extra rad, parting ways, they say nice things about me, I say nice things about them, we even refer each other for work still which is lovely...
The only firing that means anything is for proven and documented misconduct. That is the only thing, in California at least, that could prevent you from collecting unemployment.
- no where near the same thing. never been in a professional environment have you?logi
- hey logi, go fL|ck yourself...professio... enough for you?duhsign
- I agree with others, being fired and layed off are not the same.VikingKingEleven
- Fired = No Value
Laid off = Have Value but no money to pay.VikingKingEleven - most "professional" employers choose to give out only the bare minumum info...duhsign

I have a shit ton of patience in the office environment. I've never actually been fired, but I have come extremely close to walking out one place in particular. After working for my last boss, I can most likely work anywhere and be happy for the rest of my life.

Someone should fire me right now for the farts I am releasing into the air in my cubicle. These walls cannot stop it!

The few times where it wasn't a fit or the culture sucked or whatever I usually quit before getting fired. It's pretty easy to see the writing on the wall and I'm too proactive to stagnate when I'd rather be moving forward.
- the culture war is usually why you get laid off and/or fired anyway...vaxorcist

Like CygnusZero4 says, I don't think there's any actual legal difference between getting laid off and getting fired. More of a semantic difference.
In effect, there is only "getting fired." But you can say "I got laid off" as long as you didn't get caught injecting heroin in the bathroom or banging the boss' daughter or whatever.

Ive quit twice when I felt the axe coming down. Once some co-workers were conspiring against me for a power move up for themselves. The second time, I got a letter of reccomendation for a raise from one of my clients (at Disney) and they were so pissed, they had it out for me after that (I didn't ask for the letter either, it was offered). The only reason why they didn't fire me was because I could have sued both times for illegal dismissal. But, I felt hawk eyes waiting for any mistake. Looking back, I wish I would have let them get rid of me. I would have had a lawsuit on my hands. I've never done anything to deserve getting fired except maybe bodying my work better than the person next to me with the same job. That pisses insecure people off.

I've never been fired form a job before. However, when my oldest son was three, he use to fire me all the time.
Me: "Go to your room!"
Him: "You're FIRED!" *slams door

^ The thing that really sucked about getting fired from there is my stepdads sister is married to the son of the guy Joel that owns Shop Rite, like........ all of them. He's one of the head honchos there, and I got the job directly through him.

I used to work at this fancy hotel in NYC, and found the manager was stealing from out tips, fucking coke head bitch, so i did numbers from when she started working and it came up to around $400, I waited until she went into the managers office, walked in, locked the door behind me and told her I was either walking out of there with my $400, or I was going to jail, she started crying and tried to guilt trip me , and told me she had a problem BLAH BLAH BLAH, I didn't care, stood up for myself, went to get another manager and told on her. She got fired, and then I did too for threatening her, they were scared she was going to get legal on their ass... fucking coke head...
