never fired..."parted ways" once though : )
fired and laid off are same thing except for semantics. If you have been playing nice and they want you gone its called laid off, if you have pissed them off its called fired. Mine was extra rad, parting ways, they say nice things about me, I say nice things about them, we even refer each other for work still which is lovely...
The only firing that means anything is for proven and documented misconduct. That is the only thing, in California at least, that could prevent you from collecting unemployment.
