I just went through the whole thread and I ask the moderators to delete it because of the stupidity and irrelevance of some of the data given. I'm also pretty dissapointed when Janne mentions the Jews and talks about this ethniic group as a whole as it has one huge collective streamlined fascistic opinion. Get real and start reading.

    • actually, everyone here has been highly restrained and respectful considering the subject matter.sputnik2
    • so just hide it because you dont like it?erikjonsson
    • I agree, don't comment on things you know nothing about, it just shows your ignorance, go back to your pretty pictures and leave the politics to those who know at least something about the history of the conflict.Giles78

Well, Tungsten, basically that place is a mess. It's always have been and it will be so for at least another 100 years, maybe 200, I don't know. One would reckon it only depends on how fast tabloids, coffee and moochin' a croissant becomes breakfast on those parts (that's the George W. approach), but it's not. That place is where two worlds and two sensitivities collide.

    Why?

That piece of land would have no importance if it weren't for the fact that it is the place where two of the most wide-spread religions sprung from. Christianity (which was not made peacefully and has many defects), and represents the West, and the Islamic rule (which was not made peacefully and has many defects, but still represents the Desert in our minds, and rightly so because we oppose to their rule about how they treat their people and, especially, their women).

From these notions we make an opinion.

Starting at 0 AD, the land called Palestine was occupied by Romans. It was just an outpost for them, a place where the civilized, cosmopolitan world ended and they could do business with tribes from the desert (bear in mind that for Rome the desert was the limit of the known-world) which were dominated by the Persians. In that place there were a lot of tribes: like the Jews. The Jews were a small people enslaved by the Persians (now Iraq and Iran), in the North, and by the remains of the Egyptian culture in the South. They managed to keep their culture and language, but the influence of Rome (which was mainly mercantile) gave the opportunity to the Jewish people, because their expertise as a tight group of workers favoured them against an erratic big domain Persian rule. It's like a syndicate.

The rest of the story, I'll leave it to you.

of the political influence of Roman law and the widespread cult of the teachings of Jesus Christ which were authorized by the Roman Empire around 200AD, devised Islamism (circa 600AD of our era).

Sad, but I've given up hope about these types of matters. And yes, I've had family members in wars before.

this is indeed a sad, ongoing situation. I can't really connect with what's going on over there because not only do I nor have I ever live in that area (nor have family or friends there), but I can't even begin to understand what or why they are fighting. Religion means almost nothing to me in my daily life. Yeah, I understand that basic principles of law and general morals in the society that I live in tend to be based on the teachings the bible or what have you, but to risk life and limb and family on making a statement that some dirt is all that just wouldn't be worth it to me. If some people came into the community that I lived and tried to oust me and my family, yeah, I'd fight back... but once they started shooting missles and shit, no thanks, I'm packing up everything and we're out. Violence solves nothing and only self-perpetuates. After hundreds of years nobody can really remember what the hell they're really fighting for, they only find new reasons to continue the fight because that's all they know.

  • Corvo20

"After hundreds of years nobody can really remember what the hell they're really fighting for".

    Ditto. That's the problem.

Normally I don´t respond to political threads.

but some you should learn to differentiate theory from the reality.
eminently when you gained your "knowledge" of war from mass media.

this is just a genreal statement. not a pro neither a contra.

and yes I was in war. and I lost family members and that was also the reason why I wrote my diploma dissertation about ethnical conflicts.

    • Sorry to hear that Moamoa, war sucks, period!

Just a thought to those who feel Israel needs more restraint - the civilians dying are being killed because those on the Palestinian side hide their artillery etc amongst their civilians (schools, apartments, businesses etc)... and they do NOT wear uniforms... it's those rocket / artillery sites that are launching the 'toy' rockets into Israel which DO KILL innocent Israelis... at least Israel is targeting actual 'military' (hidden) establishments... if you think their intent is to kill civilians - do a little research at who and what they're attacking...

... also... Israel IS a nuclear power, folks... they could turn gaza into something even Dale Chihuly couldn't conceive...

... i do truly wish this would all go away - but Israel is NOT the evil some of you folks are making it out to be... your words are dangerous and lack complete perspective.

Israel was formed in 1947 by the U.N... if you want to be upset with someone - be upset with your grandparents and the silly U.N. who set up this mess in the first place (not that that will help either) - What do you expect when you jam a displaced religious group right in the middle of a series of nations whose governments are run solely on the basis of their religion... and you take away 'their land' in the process?

The only solution is to viciously demolish religion on a global level until it no longer exists or is at least irrelevant... or there is only ONE religion remaining (one that everyone is on board with)...

... and as far as what they're fighting for - um... it's HOLY LAND, folks... reading some of the comments in this thread - some of you have forgotten that... but the Palestinians and Jews obviously haven't... :)

Quick response to Corvo - you said two religions stem from that region... completely leaving out Judaism which is neither Islamic or Christian...

... there are THREE religions which sprouted directly from descendants of Abraham and arguably more. :)

Interestingly enough... all three religions share so much actual history in common - all believe Christ was a prophet (maybe not THE prophet)... but all acknowledge him as 'holy' in a sense...

... what a mess. :)... if you all only knew how much you had in common!!! (talking to the main religions in general)

I make some long-ass posts... sorry.

The whole muslim culture is freakin wack. Even their peace makers talk about bringing war and being a victim. Not once did they mention shooting rockets into isreal is wrong. These people need get over it, get over themselves and join a new century. Every race or religion has been persecuted at one time or another.

What is the purpose of this? That whole area should be nuked so there will no longer be a holy land to fight over.

some comedian said that giving the jewish people that area because they owned it 2000 years ago puts alot of the usa back in the hands of the indians. by the same logic.

    • also europe would be turned up side downerikjonsson

considering isreal's position they have the ways and means to enforce a cease fire or some form of stability with Hamas while opening up the border/wall for civilians like water and food or whatever and yet they don't...why? history? forget it

Corvo2 you need to also mention that the jews blended into the roman culture while keeping their own traditions. Even when jewish slaves won freedom they stayed in rome because of their families and it was accustom for them. Eventually enough of them got together and went back to Israel.

If you can't assimilate into a new culture you can never evolve as a people.

    • Exactly. Jewish culture is part of the West.Corvo2

The irony is that although Israel can crush pretty much any enemy with its military, in the long term the prospects for them are rather grim. The Palestinians are simply having kids too fast (and within Israel they are 1/5 of the population and could be a majority by the middle of the century).

Interesting article on the challenge Israel faces (a few years old, but still relevant)
