Without voicing support for either side... whenever this topic comes up it seems the most uninformed or misinformed people are the most vocal and the least respectful.
Choosing not to call those people ignorant because that would imply they are worse off than anyone else in this thread.

^ you seem to neglect the fact that when people are too learned about any subject they are unable to have an opinion.

I don't believe that. I think they just have more control over their emotional reaction as they have spent more time getting a grip on it.
- Maybe, but then there are sort of blockades, like the impossibility to reach a conclusion.Corvo2
- Pretty much. A conclusion can really only be reached by those involved. Not us shooting our mouths off.ornj
- They seem pretty unable to do it as well. Maybe they're not seeing the whole picture ;)Corvo2
- ok, this was a bit rhetorical.Corvo2
- Ha yeah. But I think they need to rip the page out and start a new drawing.ornj

I don't normally comment in these kinds of threads, but I feel compelled to on this topic.
I'm jewish and was raised pretty secular but have family in israel etc.
Some of my family's friends out there have been killed in suicide bombings over the years.I've been athiest most of my adult life, basically since I was taught science at school and didn't feel the need for religion to fill in any answers. My view is, if you don't like science then don't use any of the products that science has produced: electricity, cars, planes, the internet etc.
Anyway, I've been aware of the israel/palestine conflict for a lot of my life. I think the formation of israel after the atrocities of WW2 was an important thing, but gradually over the years my tolerance for Israel has been worn away.
I think there's a terrible blurring between the lines of judaism as a faith and Israel as a country. I don't feel any connection with israel as a country but I still respect my jewish heritage even if I don't need the religion anymore. I'm sure there are many, many jews the world over who condemn israel.
This latest round of belligerent attacks is the last straw, I now have absolutely no time for Israel. Their repeated attacks over the last 2 weeks against the will of the rest of the world is inexcusable. Sure, they have a big terrorist problem and need to deal with the fact they get bombed etc. but those attacks are being carried out by terrorists, and so as a nation they cannot respond in kind if they want to be seen as a westernised, modern, respectable country. State-sanctioned terrorism is worse than independent terrorism .
I have a cousin who's a paratrooper in the israeli military, he's in gaza right now, obviously I'm worried for him, but watching the news each day and seeing the hundreds of injured families and children I feel sick to my stomach that the world is just standing by and letting this happen in the 21st century.
I have answers to this problem, everyone needs a place to live. It just seems when history and religion become involved is when things go bad. People need to learn to forget sometimes
- Final para – I have *no* answers to this problemBaskerviIle
- well written. hope your cousin is okvespa

how else do you stop 6000 missiles, rockets and mortars being launched into your country and homes?
THAT is the issue.
No one's stepped up to answer this. Everyone heres complaining how israel is wrong, etc. They are defending their country just like WE are.

dconstrukt - clearly you have a one-sided view of the whole thing.
The ceasefire was abided by Hamas for 6 months, the clause being that they stop rocket fire and Israel opens the Rafah gates and allows free movement. Guess who didnt do their bit? No, it wasn't Hamas, it was Israel. That is why Hamas fired rockets out of sheer pressure, and assasination attempts inside Gaza by Israel.
Ok, a few rockets (not 6000!??) flew into Israel, then Israel decided to literaly carpet bomb the whole people. They deliberately attacked hospitals, universities, civilian homes (Look at the norwegian doctors video above). Do not for one second tell me this is a proportional retalliation, this is a inhumane act of violence by a so-called 'Jewish' state.
If you do not believe me, then just look at the numbers
How many Israelis dead? 5-10 maybe? Possibly a few more injured.
How many Palestinians dead? 400-500 and with over 2000 injured!Ok, after killing over 400 people, do you not think it is enough? No, Israel is now going into Gaza on the ground and blowing women, children and buildings.
Did you see the aerial attack of a guy loading his truck? Israel put it up on the internet claiming it was an example of their precision attack.
- Independant reports and pictures later showed that it was a civilian loading oxygen cylinders on to his truck to move to safer locations. Either Israel is stupid, or it wants to wipe out the Palestinians.Any right minded Jew like the Naturei Karta, would never align himself with the Zionist state of Israel and its illegal occuptation. Just as much as a right-minded Muslim may not align himself with Hamas.
- you're obviously missing one HUGE piece. Hamas is a terrorist group, just like al queida (sp)... and second you can't talk with a group that has publicly stated ,they won't talk and want to wipe you off the face of the earth.dconstrukt

AGAIN: you can´t compare apples with pears!!!

I am convinced that Israel honestly does just want to eradicate the Palestineans once and for all. They just will not admit it. Pretty ironic really considering how they got their hands on Israel to begin with.
