I don't normally comment in these kinds of threads, but I feel compelled to on this topic.

I'm jewish and was raised pretty secular but have family in israel etc.
Some of my family's friends out there have been killed in suicide bombings over the years.

I've been athiest most of my adult life, basically since I was taught science at school and didn't feel the need for religion to fill in any answers. My view is, if you don't like science then don't use any of the products that science has produced: electricity, cars, planes, the internet etc.

Anyway, I've been aware of the israel/palestine conflict for a lot of my life. I think the formation of israel after the atrocities of WW2 was an important thing, but gradually over the years my tolerance for Israel has been worn away.

I think there's a terrible blurring between the lines of judaism as a faith and Israel as a country. I don't feel any connection with israel as a country but I still respect my jewish heritage even if I don't need the religion anymore. I'm sure there are many, many jews the world over who condemn israel.

This latest round of belligerent attacks is the last straw, I now have absolutely no time for Israel. Their repeated attacks over the last 2 weeks against the will of the rest of the world is inexcusable. Sure, they have a big terrorist problem and need to deal with the fact they get bombed etc. but those attacks are being carried out by terrorists, and so as a nation they cannot respond in kind if they want to be seen as a westernised, modern, respectable country. State-sanctioned terrorism is worse than independent terrorism .

I have a cousin who's a paratrooper in the israeli military, he's in gaza right now, obviously I'm worried for him, but watching the news each day and seeing the hundreds of injured families and children I feel sick to my stomach that the world is just standing by and letting this happen in the 21st century.

I have answers to this problem, everyone needs a place to live. It just seems when history and religion become involved is when things go bad. People need to learn to forget sometimes

    • Final para – I have *no* answers to this problemBaskerviIle
