I would also like the ef-s 10-22, only have 17-85. Need more funds.

I borrowed the 10-22 from a friend for a nightlife shoot, and I loved it! Was much more useful than I though it would be. Pretty much used it the whole night. Even took some portrait shots with it.

I like those are you using the regular flash? I'm new to photography.

Yeah in the nightlife stuff it's just a 550 ex on camera. I turn the FEC pretty far down and let the camera expose for ambient in aperture priority.

i have a 17-40, make me an offer.

Thanks for letting me know I am going to note that. I don't know what I am into at this point, just need to take my camera out alot more.

If you are going to be shooting people I would probably save a bit more and get the 24-70L. If you are going to be shooting landscapes, interiors, city life etc I would probably opt for the 10-22 on a crop body. If I only had crop bodies and on a budget I would consider the 10-22 and 50 1.4 and 85 1.8.
I have 17-40 and 24-70 and the 17-40 doesnt get much use. Having said that I have FF and crop bodies.
Confused?

Thanks, slappy, I have a crop body, and a 28-105. The wide end isn't wide enough, so 24 is not gonna be much better.
The 10-22 is great for city life, but prob won't get much use elsewhere. I thought the 17-40 was a good compromise, and would be a "normal" ish lens on a crop body...
and yeah, they intentionally confuse us so we buy lenses we don't need =)

To be honest, I dont find the 17-40 that great on my 30D (crop). Its not that wide and it doesnt have much zoom. 40mm isnt really great or flattering for portraits/gigs (70-200 range is much better, primes are best). It really comes into its own on a FF body where it becomes a great super wide angle. The 10-22 on a 30D is effectively the same/similar range as the 17-40 on a 5D if that makes sense.
You need to work out what you want to shoot most and whether you will be shooting crop bodies for a while. There is a perfect lens for every type of shoot.
- Quality, contrast, sharpness, colour, build, af, price is all awesome with this lens though.slappy

Yeah I hear you. I will be doing mostly indoor nightlife stuff with a flash. I want to have have a sharp lens for portraits, though. I have the 50 1.4 and I feel like I am always doing a lot of foot work for anything other than headshots, as it is effectivly an 80mm.

Your call man but I would consider the 24-70 for that type of work. Most of my work is corporate events and its usually damn dark. The extra stop of speed helps too. f2.8 is twice the amount of light coming through over f4.
I did do a lot of shoots with my 17-40 and 30D combo though and you could do a lot worse.
