If you are going to be shooting people I would probably save a bit more and get the 24-70L. If you are going to be shooting landscapes, interiors, city life etc I would probably opt for the 10-22 on a crop body. If I only had crop bodies and on a budget I would consider the 10-22 and 50 1.4 and 85 1.8.
I have 17-40 and 24-70 and the 17-40 doesnt get much use. Having said that I have FF and crop bodies.
