A friend of mine met and dated a Persian guy (from Iran). He was/is muslim, and had been in the US for about 10 years. Sounds like a similar to yours, I don't recall any stories of gifts (especially not a gift card, that IS weird). Everything was fine, they were in love and then got married. The very instant they got married the mask came off and he became every stereotype you ever hear about how Muslim men treat their wife (wives). Turned into a total misogynist, became very physical and emotionally abusive, tried to turn her against her family and friends etc.
I realize this could be said for any man, regardless of his background, but it just seems fairly typical of muslim men to be very dominant and to treat their wife as second class.
Just keep on your toes, try to meet his parents to see how they act toward one another. Try to meet his sisters or brothers to see how their relationships are. And if there are any early warning signals, take it as a sign. Hope that didn't come across wrong, I have nothing against muslims or otherwise, I'm just sharing a situation that happened to a friend of mine.- "seems fairly typical of muslim men" god shut up.********

wow, people really have alot of 'cliche'd' views on Muslims. I'm not surprised though, it's kind of all around us. Anyway I'm a Muslim girl and though I was not really offended by any comments (about hiab and covering etc) I do think people could read about it and read into more than whats on the surface and what you are told. About your guy, th fact that hes a muslim going for a non muslim girl, tells alot about how much hes stuck to his roots. Most iranians i know are very open minded and not too religious either. its just like any normal relationship really, see what hes like, spend time together n stuff.
