To communicate with friends and like minded fellows, and to give my close friends, families a beacon, letting them know that I am well and alive and ranting.
And filled with a lot of client/work related rants.

I work for 3 newspapers, that is under the umbrella of a massive corporation that publishes news. Every site does twitter. As a matter of fact, all news sites use twitter.
on an unrelated note, point5's twitter is funny.

I signed up to it ages ago, couldn't see the point in it and haven't used it.

twitter isn't so much for knowing what those you following are doing, but rather more for the networking aspect of it. if you follow the right ppl, you can find out a lot of great stuff (agreeably some of it's not so great), and you usually get the news faster than more mainstream sites can publish it.

people think they are alive when they manage stuff like this. (twitter)

Honestly, I fucking hated this tweet thing. But as time goes on and you weed out the people that think it's interesting to tweet shit such as:
• making a sandwich
• just bought new shoes
• watching Batman and eating popcorn...then you realize it can become a pretty cool communication device. And seeing other people send shitty tweets makes me realize how shitty my own are at times and I try to shape up. when you direct tweet it's basically a efficient email client of sorts. It's good to follow software developers and news and shit like that too. Easily accessible via phone or computer you can get a message out to a large audience without using email lists or logging into a CMS or blog.
- link to your twitter, please?Jnr_Madison

I started using it, not understanding it... but now I like it, because it's like a stream of consciousness... though, it's more than a little transparent...

im with sig. At first I was all like, WTF MAN? THIS FOR REAL? RIDICULOUS! But now its not so bad.. its pretty fun to watch what friends put up as well as blogs.

I'm not that much of a twitterer, but I do throw a golden nugget up now and then.

It's ok, I was doubful at first and I still think there's a huge amount of ego attached to people who think that everyone/anyone might possibly be interested in what they're currently doing. But again, if you get the mix right it can be a good source of information, and it can be pretty rapid in terms of when things are happening.
As always in life ;I will follow.

A good example of how it got used alot was this past week at Adobe MAX... for those of us that are pretty involved in certain communities, if a certain session, or gathering was taking place, it was an easy enough way to leave a note for everyone that follows a certain person posting. Especially if you don't have everyone's phone number or email.
- pascii0
i do. but i am a very uninteressant person
- ********0
I don't get it either. I'm not the slightest bit interested in your, or anybody else's bowl movements or lunch.

there's plenty interesting about it. its a mode of communication like any other and there are bound to be ways to put it to use. So in the year or two since launch 99% of users just fart out nonsense into it, doesn't mean it can be given some intrinsic worth in the right hands.

"its a mode of communication like any other".
Exactly. It's basically SMS with a shorter limit for your "stream-of-nonsenses"

And basically it's another way to ensure that nobody gets anything done. Another reason to fuck with your mobile while someone is talking to you....
